Churches Urge MDC-T Leaders To Reconcile For The Good Of The Nation

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has called on the leaders of the opposition MDC-T party to put the good of the nation ahead of individual interests. The churches urged the leaders to reconcile and work together. This comes at a time when the party is facing a potential split, as its vice presidents fight for the party’s leadership in the absence of longtime leader, Morgan Tsvangirai who is undergoing cancer treatment in South Africa. His deputies, Nelson Chamisa, Elias Mudzuri and Thokozani Khupe have each claimed that they are the rightful acting president of the party.

In a statement yesterday, ZCC president Israel Mukuwanda said

We urgently call upon you to be reconciled to one another since the existence of a united and viable opposition is a necessary condition for the thriving of a society organised on the basis of a democratic multi-party system.
