Videos Of People Leaving Mnangagwa's Bindura Rally Were Manufactured: Rugeje

Zanu-PF National Political Commissar, Lieutenant-General (retired) Engelbert Rugeje has said that the videos which showed people leaving President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Bindura rally in droves were not authentic and had been manufactured. In the video, soldiers can be seen attempting to stop the people from leaving by assaulting them.

Speaking to Business Time, Rugeje said,

Magetsi, Iwewe ukaona zvinoita vana Denzel Washington na (Arnold) Schwarzenegger vachi jumper 30 metres asi anoburuka achifamba kuseri uko. That is the same gymnastics dzirikushandiswa paSocial media. I don’t buy the story iyoyo yekuti vanhu vakabuda. Vakabuda vanhu vanda. That vanhu vakabuda kuBindura. Vakabuda President vaenda. I remember pandakabuda President vaenda. I took almost 45 minutes in a jam. Both traffic and human yandakatozobuda after 45 minutes. President vakamhara kuHarare ini ndichiri pedyo stadium.

(That is fiction, It’s the same thing that Denzel Washington and Arnold Schwarzenegger do in Hollywood movies. The jump 30 metres and walk away unscathed.

It’s the same thing that is being done on social media, I don’t bu the story that people left the rally in Bindura. The people only left after the President had already left. I took almost 45 minutes in a (traffic) jam…The president landed in Harare while I was still very close to the stadium)
