MDC Alliance Calls For SADC, AU Intervention As Zim Has Become A 'Military State'

The MDC has called for the intervention of the Southern African Development Cooperation (SADC), the African Union (AU) and the rest of the international community to deal with the Zimbabwe crisis.

MDC Alliance co-vice president Morgen Komichi said that failure to deal with the Zimbabwean issue will result in total anarchy in the country. He further implored Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Jacob Mudenda to halt the persecution of opposition lawmakers. Said Komichi:

There is a state of emergency, as we speak right now because all the institutions that are supposed to resolve the country’s problems are all captured by Zanu PF.

Zimbabwe has now been transformed into a military State; the citizens are now victims of the State. There is no any other way the citizens can rescue themselves besides international intervention and that is when we call for Sadc to intervene. The chairperson must not give a blind eye to the Zimbabweans’ challenges. AU must intervene.

About a dozen MDC legislators were arrested on accusations of committing acts violence during last week’s protests. Some have gone underground for fear of victimisation at the hands of security forces.
