The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party has written a letter to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to seek clarification regarding a situation of name similarity. This was after it was discovered that a person named Chitembe David from Harare East Constituency had registered to contest in the Parliamentary elections as a candidate for a political party named Changu Chimuti Chakapinda Chapinda (CCCC), which bears a resemblance to the CCC party.
The party inquired if the CCCC party exists and how it was possible for someone to register with a political party that has a name identical to theirs. The CCC has also expressed curiosity about the use of similar symbols by various political parties and requested ZEC to clarify this issue to the citizens. In an open letter seen by Pindula News, the CCC led by Nelson Chamisa said:

Dear @ZECzim, 
We wanted to inquire whether there exists a political party by the name of Changu Chimuti Chakapinda Chapinda (CCCC). We are curious about the electoral law with regard to the use of similar symbols by various parties. We are wondering how someone was registered with a political party that is identical to our party, CCC. Could you kindly clarify this to the citizens?

Over the years, Zimbabwe’s political landscape has been marked by instances of name similarity among political parties. Examples include the MDC-T party led by Thokozani Khupe, which was accused in 2018 of using a symbol similar to that of the MDC Alliance party then led by Nelson Chamisa. Other examples include Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) formations such as MDC T, MDC M, MDC 
Alliance, MDC 99 as well as the ZANU Ndonga, PF ZAPU, ZANU PF, ZIM PF, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Citizens Collaboration for Change (CCC), Citizens Convergence for Change (CCC), and Changu Chimuti Chakapinda Chapinda (CCCC).
Political analysts believe that this situation can lead to voter confusion and raise concerns about the credibility of the electoral process. They argue that this is caused by the absence of eligibility tests for political parties, therefore, having a central registry where parties can register and deposit their names, symbols, colours, and logos would help prevent conflicts and enable voters to make informed choices.

CCC Writes To ZEC Over Case Of Name Similarity

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) claims that members of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) are financially supporting their challenge to the ZEC delimitation report and push for a postponement of this year’s elections.
MDC leader Mwonzora filed a Constitutional Court application last month to annul the report, claiming it was flawed due to irregularities in the process of creating the new boundaries.
The court dismissed the application for lacking jurisdiction. Mwonzora is now planning another attempt to set aside the delimitation report. NewZimbabwe cites him as saying:

We have prepared our papers and today we are filing our application before the High Court seeking the same relief. We argue that a declaration must be made that the delimitation report is invalid, ZEC must be ordered to redo and that the proclamation must, by the President, follow receipt of a correct delimitation report.

Mwonzora argues that the delimitation report doesn’t consider recent census data. After Chief Justice Luke Malaba dismissed his court bid, CCC leader Nelson Chamisa criticised Mwonzora for working with ZANU PF to delay the elections. Mwonzora claimed that despite public criticism from CCC, its members supported his legal challenge. He said:

There are a number of people in CCC who were encouraging me to persist with the application to the extent of offering financial help there.
</blockquote>
The delimitation report has caused controversy since it was released earlier this year. A ZANU PF member previously attempted to challenge it in court.
Mwonzora’s legal challenge faced criticism from some political observers who accused him of trying to avoid a vote. Mwonzora’s performance in previous by-elections has been criticized, and some predict a similar outcome in this year’s elections.
The delimitation report is significant for the upcoming elections because it determines the boundaries of constituencies and wards for the purpose of parliamentary and local government elections.
The report is produced by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and is based on population data from the national census. The report impacts the distribution of seats in parliament and local councils, which in turn affects the outcome of elections.

MDC Claims CCC Members Fund Challenge To ZEC Delimitation Report

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora</a>, MDC-T leader, warned party members not to participate in other parties’ activities or risk expulsion. The warning comes amid reports of some members participating in the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate selection process.
The MDC national chairman sent a letter on April 26 warning that members and elected leaders who participate in activities of other parties will be expelled for violating the party and national constitution. Reads the letter:

As such Article 5.10 of the party constitution and Section 129 of the National Constitution will accordingly be applicable.
In such circumstances of breach, membership of the party terminates automatically.
</blockquote>
Several MDC-T officials have participated in the ongoing candidate selection process of the CCC, indicating the party’s declining chances in the upcoming elections. Many members have joined Nelson Chamisa’s CCC, and in Kadoma Central, three MDC-T councillors participated in the CCC primaries to remove the current Acting Mayor, Clr Tendai Kokera, arguing that he was unfit for the position.
In the past, the MDC has recalled councillors and MPs aligned with Nelson Chamisa.
The CCC evolved from the MDC after a <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/06/22/mdc-to-lose-supporters-due-to-leadership-crisis-mdc-official/">leadership crisis</a> following the demise of founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai and the recall of members aligned with the Chamisa faction.

Mwonzora Issues Threats As MDC Members Participate In CCC Nomination Process

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kudakwashe_Bhasikiti">Kudakwashe Bhasikiti</a>, a former Minister of State in Masvingo, was on Monday cleared of rape charges he has been facing since 2019. He was being accused of raping a 12-year- old at his Moira orphanage in Mwenezi, Masvingo.
The acquittal was granted by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chiredzi">Chiredzi</a> Regional Magistrate Ms Judith Zuyu, The <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/bhasikiti-cleared-of-rape/">Herald</a> reported.
Ms Zuyu cleared Bhasikiti of the rape charge due to conflicting and inconsistent statements made by key state witnesses during the trial. Bhasikiti also denied the charges, claiming that he was being framed as retaliation for ordering some occupants to leave part of his Moira farm.
<h2>Allegations:</h2>
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kudakwashe_Bhasikiti">Kudakwashe Bhasikiti</a> was <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/kudakwashe-bhasikiti-arrested-for-rape/">arrested in December 2022</a> facing rape charges.
Bhasikiti appeared before the Mwenezi magistrate Faina Makumbe. On 15 December, he was remanded in custody until 29 December and was advised to seek bail at the High Court. He was not asked to plead during the court appearance.
Bhasikiti was transferred to Chiredzi Remand Prison as his case would be heard at the Chiredzi Regional Court.
It is alleged that in 2019, Bhasikiti went into a room at an orphanage he ran on his farm in Mwenezi. He allegedly silenced the complainant by covering her mouth with his hand, removed her clothes by force, and raped her once. He threatened her with unspecified consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.
Bhasikiti was arrested by police at Mwenezi police station sometime last year after they received a tip-off about an alleged rape.
Bhasikiti was a Minister of State from 2013 until he was expelled from the Government and ZANU PF in December 2014 on allegations of fanning factionalism.
Bhasikiti attempted to rejoin ZANU PF after his expulsion but was rejected. He eventually threw his weight behind the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/MDC_Alliance" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">MDC Alliance</a> then led by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a> during the 2018 general elections.
In 2019, Bhasikiti announced that he was <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/kudakwashe-bhasikiti-quits-active-politics/">quitting politics</a> to focus on farming.

Former Minister Bhasikiti Cleared Of Rape Charges

The MDC Alliance led by Douglas Mwonzora has rejected the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) delimitation report that will be used for the 2023 general elections, saying it will challenge it by all means.
In a statement dated 08 March 2023, the MDC Alliance said the delimitation report is flawed and is therefore not possible to use to conduct credible elections. Part of the statement reads:

The MDC and all its Alliance partners on the 6th of March 2023 met at Morgan Richard Tsvangirai (MRT) House to reaffirm election preparedness and foster unity across the broader progressive democratic forces, as the country readies for harmonized elections to be held in the later part of the year.
The meeting totally rejected the ZEC final delimitation report because of its glaring fundamental flaws and resolved to challenge it by all means.
No credible election can ever be conducted under such grossly disenfranchising circumstances as demonstrated in the final delimitation report.
Despite naysayers, the MDC Alliance remains the most formidable, intact and focused alternative to the people’s hope of a truly democratic and all-inclusive leadership.
</blockquote>
On 20 February 2023, President Emmerson Mnangagwa gazetted the names and boundaries of the wards, the House of Assembly, and Senatorial constituencies that will be used in the forthcoming and any subsequent general election.
ZEC handed over the Delimitation Report to Mnangagwa on 17 February before it was gazetted on 20 February.

MDC Alliance Rejects ZEC's Final Delimitation Report

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson has said armed police assaulted the wife and daughter of Costa Machingauta, the opposition MDC Alliance Member of Parliament for Budiriro.
In a series of Twitter posts seen by Pindula News, Mahere said:

⛔️ZANU PF abusing the Police Service have stormed the home of Hon Machingauta where an internal @CCCZimbabwe planning meeting was to take place as we lay out our program of action for 2023. ZRP lorries with armed police &amp; teargas are camped at Hon Machingauta’s home.
🟡ZANU PF will say the tear-gassing &amp; violence taking place at Hon Machingauta’s home as we speak is “stage-managed.”

In an update, Mahere said the Chibaya, Machingauta and others were held at Budiriro 2 Police Station. She added:

We’ve deployed our rapid response team to secure their protection. Armed @PoliceZimbabwe are camped with lorries at the Machingauta home. His wife &amp; daughter were badly beaten.
Why are you beating up his wife and daughter?

The CCC party says charges against the opposition leaders are not yet clear adding that they were arrested “for attending an internal meeting this morning.”
CCC, which is led by Nelson Chamisa, a former Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services says it condemns the continued banning of its “internal meetings and rallies by the regime in Harare.

"Armed Police Have Beaten Up The Wife And Daughter Of Budiriro MP" - Mahere

The ruling ZANU PF won the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mutasa_RDC">Mutasa Rural District Council</a> Ward 6 By-election that was held on Saturday.
In an update seen by Pindula News, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) said out of 2597 registered voters, a total of 1 528 votes were cast during this election. 
This translates to 58.8% voter turnout. Results:

Regina Barara (ZANU PF) – 1 080 [71.7%] 
Babrah Nyamuru (CCC) – 433 [28.3%] 
</blockquote>
The post became vacant following the death of Councillor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Stephen_E_Kavhuru">Stephen Kavhuru</a> who secured victory on the MDC-Alliance ticket in 2018.

The MDC Alliance was then led by Nelson Chamisa.
A number of people were turned away either because they could not produce valid identification documents or their names were not on the voters’ roll.
As of 11:00 hours, about twenty (20) and eighteen (18) people had been turned away at Gatsi Primary School Polling Station and at Bvuma Business Centre Tent respectively for not presenting the Identification Document (ID) card, showing up at the wrong polling station and others were not in the voter’s roll, according to the Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN), a local election watchdog.
At Bvuma Business Centre Tent, one voter was reprimanded and turned away by the Presiding officer for chanting a political party slogan.
This is in violation of Section 147 (1) (c ) on the prohibition of certain activities in the vicinity of polling stations “without derogation from any other provision of this Act or any other enactment, no person shall, within three hundred metres of any polling station on any polling day- utter slogans”.

ZANU PF Wins Mutasa RDC Ward 6 By-election

MDC vice president Elias Mudzuri has said he will not be contesting for any post at the upcoming congress citing irregularities in the party’s electoral processes.
This comes after the opposition party’s National Council nominated party leader Douglas Mwonzora as the sole presidential candidate at the party’s 5th Ordinary Congress set for 18 December this year.
In a leaked WhatsApp conversation, Mudzuri said he does not agree with the whole process and will only change his stance if the process becomes transparent and democratic. He said:
<blockquote>
Thank you to all members of the MDC family who have expressed their wish that I stand for re-election as second Vice President of the party at the coming 5th congress.
Please take note that I will not submit myself for that election for any position. I will however remain a committed card-carrying member of the party.
I am not in agreement with the process so I stand conflicted to vie for any position until and unless the process becomes transparent and democratic including knowledge of the colligate from ward to province.

Contacted for comment to <a href="https://tellzim.com/mudzuri-slams-mwonzora/">TellZim News</a>, Mudzuri confirmed the development. He said:

I cannot be nominated by the elite members of the party, nominations should start at the grassroots level.
We are 22 years as a party and that is what we have been doing all along.
I cannot be nominated by my friends, that is not what we do as a party.
</blockquote>
He said will not leave the party but will remain a card-carrying and loyal member of the party. Said Mudzuri:

I am ashamed of what is happening right now but I cannot run away from the party, I have talked to them and I will continue to talk to them but if they don’t listen, I will remain a card-carrying member as I cannot be part of the leadership which fails to observe the democratic tenets of the party.
I can be nominated for any position in the party and have at some point assumed the leadership of the party as you know when Mr (Morgan) Tsvangirai died, he left me in charge of the party.

Mudzuri Says He Is Ashamed To Be Part Of MDC Executive

Twelve members of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) have been summoned to appear in court on Thursday 29 September 2022 for <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/11/04/mdc-alliance-activists-in-court-over-attack-on-harvest-house/">violence which erupted at the Harvest House in Harare CBD in 2020.</a>
The accused, who were then MDC-Alliance activists, reportedly destroyed windows and cut padlocks with bolt cutters at Harvest House.
<h2>The activists who have been summoned to appear at Harare Magistrates Court  are:</h2>

The 13th member, Forward Sezali, who was then aged 40 at the time of his arrest, has since passed on.
Muchavhaira confirmed to NewZimbabwe.com of the latest development. He said:
<blockquote>
Indeed, the 12 of us, minus the now deceased Forward Sezali, have been served with summons to appear in court Thursday facing fresh charges of public violence. The timing of the matter is curious, particularly so after it had been thrown away.
</blockquote>
At their initial appearance before Magistrate Judith Taruvinga in 2020, the youths were all released on $1 500 bail each and their lawyer Moses Mavhaire then successfully applied to have them removed from remand.
<h2>Allegations:</h2>
The state alleges that on October 29, 2020, at around 10 am, the youths, who were allegedly armed with stones, iron bars and bolt cutters, teamed up within the CBD.
They proceeded towards Harvest House along Nelson Mandela, and while on the way, they allegedly attacked motorists and pedestrians who passed through the area, thereby disturbing the peace and order in the city.
They destroyed the front window panes of Harvest House using stones before cutting the key locks on the screeengate using bolt cutters.
The police reacted and arrested Machavhaira, Chidzonga, Mubaiwa, Mowotidhi and Sezali, while others escaped.
On the same day at around 11 pm, Gorekore, Shonhiwa, Katsaya, Zhou, Dube, Chaitezvi, Chanachimweza, Dzungwa returned to Harvest House leading to their arrest.
Mowotidhi and Sizali had pending cases before the same court.
The incident happened as MDC factions – MDC-T and MDC Alliance, in that order, then led by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Thokozani_Khupe">Thokozani Khupe</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a> were fighting for control over the Harvest House christened Morgan Tsvangirai House.

2020 Violence At Harvest House: 12 CCC Activists Summoned To Court

Opposition MDC-T leader, Douglas Mwonzora has said the party was experiencing “very low turbulence which is caused by one person” in an apparent reference to ousted party vice president Thokozani Khupe.
He made the remarks during an Open Parly Zimbabwe’s Twitter space this Saturday. 
Mwonzora recently suspended Khupe pending investigation over a number of issues including indiscipline but Khupe immediately declared that she was the new leader of the party. 
He said the party intends to proceed with its congress as scheduled but some leaders including Khupe want to postpone it.
Mwonzora also said five people from Matabeleland provinces had expressed interest in replacing Khupe as the party’s vice president. He added:

It appears to me that there was a lot of anger at vice president Khupe’s press conference. In terms of our party, MDC-T, there is no provision for one to declare a split.
The bases of her thinking that I joined another party is that most of our MPs are under the banner of a conglomerate of 7 political parties. I wrote to ZEC reminding them of our position of the name we used in 2018.
When Khupe took over as the president of the MDC-T, she became the president of MDC- Alliance just like what Nelson Chamisa did when he was the president now that I’m the president of MDC-T I’m now the leader of Alliance.

Speaking during Friday’s press conference, Khupe declared a split of the party into two formations. She said:

… It is in this vein that today, we, who are gathered here and many others scattered around the country, declare an official split.
There are now two MDC-T formations, one led by yours truly, Dr Thokozani Khupe, who is also the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly and the other who I don’t know who their leader is.

Khupe said Mwonzora had expelled himself from the party after claiming that he was also the leader of the MDC Alliance.

Mwonzora Responds To Khupe's Presser

MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa has hinted, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/12/24/chamisa-hints-on-new-party-name/">yet again</a>, that the opposition party will adopt a new name as the party gears up for the 26 March by-elections and 2023 harmonised elections.
The MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora said it will use the MDC Alliance as its name in elections, leaving Chamisa’s party without a name.
Mwonzora <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/01/11/mdc-mdc-alliance-all-derivatives-are-our-names-mwonzora/">has gone as far as writing a letter to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC</a>) asking the electoral body not to allow any other political party to use the name MDC or its derivatives in any election as it is their identity.
<a href="https://twitter.com/nelsonchamisa/status/1482563380942675968">Tweeting</a> on Sunday morning, Chamisa hinted of a new party name by referring to a Biblical story of a quarrel between the patriarch, Isaac and the Philistines over wells of water.
The Philistines were jealous of Isaac’s wealth and they claimed a spring he had dug as theirs.
Isaac then dug another well and gave it a new name, and yet again, the Philistines claimed it as theirs, forcing him to move to another place and digging another well and giving it a different name. <a href="https://twitter.com/nelsonchamisa/status/1482563380942675968">Wrote Chamisa:</a>

WE WILL FLOURISH… Then they dug another well, but they quarrelled over that one also; so he named it Sitnah.

Chamisa Hints On New Party Name, Again

Opposition MDC Alliance has delivered its New Year message in which it recapped its major events and campaigns of 2023 including party leader Nelson Chamisa’s tour of rural areas to mobilise supporters ahead of the 2023 elections. The party says the movement is still alive adding that the #RegisterToVote campaign will be enhanced next year to make sure that all eligible people have registered to vote. Watch the video below.

As of Saturday 13 November 2021, just over US$57 000 had been raised towards buying an armoured car for opposition MDC Alliance leader, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa.</a>
The organiser of the <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-the-peoples-pres-chamisa-replace-his-car?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet">gofundme initiative</a>, T Basvi, says the drive to buy Chamisa an armoured vehicle was triggered by “countless merciless attacks (on Chamisa) by the ruling party, aided by the government security sector.”
<div>He cites an attack on Chamisa’s convoy on the 11th of October 2021 by a group of suspected ZANU PF youths as evidence that Chamisa’s life was in danger.</div>

<div>The attack left Chamisa’s vehicles damaged and many of his aides seriously injured and hospitalized. The convoy was on its way to engaging the rural community in Masvingo to understand their issues in the aftermath of the pandemic’s 3rd wave. </div>

Basvi believes chances that violence will intensify during the 2023 elections are high hence the need to beef up Chamisa’s security before any unfortunate eventuality occurs. Basvi added:</div>

UPDATE: US$57K Out Of US$120K Raised For Chamisa's New Car

Opposition MDC Alliance has recalled two of its own councillors in Bulawayo accusing them of failing to run their respective 
wards.
Deputy mayor Mlandu Ncube (ward 1), and ward 5 councillor Felix Mhaka, are the two recalled councillors.
In a letter dated October 30, addressed to MDC Alliance Bulawayo Central constituency coordinating committee (CCC)’s main wing and copied to party president Nelson Chamisa, the youth accused the pair of dereliction of duty. Part of the letter read:

We the undersigned Bulawayo Central Youth Assembly CCC under Bulawayo Metropolitan province have written this letter to recall and suspend current MDC Alliance councillors Mlandu Ncube ward 1 and Felix Mhaka ward 5.
This letter is an exemption of our ‘Voice of no confidence’ (sic) in councillors Ncube and Mhaka, and their abilities to run their respective wards which were reserved for the youth quota in the 2018 primary elections. We understand the severity of this decision and did not arrive at it hastily.

The pair was also accused of forming parallel structures in the party and also failing to achieve anything since their election in 2018.
The youth said they could not continue with Mhaka and Ncube, adding that they had failed to account for the ward retention funds, as well as come up with empowerment initiatives for the youth.
Some party insiders described the move as “child’s play”.

MDC Alliance Recalls Own Councillors

Police have launched a manhunt for more than 70 MDC Alliance supporters who engaged in a voter registration campaign in Chitungwiza over the weekend.
Seven activists were arrested and Monday, five of them were granted $6 000 bail each by Chitungwiza magistrate Sheunesu Matova and ordered to report to Zengeza Police Station once a week.
Among the arrested were juveniles aged 16 and 17 who were released into the custody of their parents. They are facing a charge of participating in a public gathering with the intent to promote public violence.
The seven were represented by Tapiwa Muchineripi of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.
According to State papers, the activists were arrested after a tip-off as they were in a procession, clad in T-shirts inscribed Register to Vote at the front and Ngaapinde Hake Chamisa at the back, while chanting MDC Alliance slogans. Read the court papers:

Chamisa's Supporters In Trouble Over Voter Registration Campaign

MDC-T national chairman <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Morgen_Komichi">Morgen Komichi</a> says he is the one who convinced Nelson Chamisa to use the name <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/MDC_Alliance">MDC Alliance</a> in the 2018 general elections.
According to Komichi, Chamisa was in favour of the name MDC-T, which had already been taken by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Thokozani_Khupe">Thokozani Khupe</a> at the time.
In an interview with OpenParly, Komichi said Chamisa was never in favour of the name and only agreed to use it grudgingly. Komichi said:

We did not want to register those MPs as MDC Alliance by the way remember I was the national chairperson I was the man in charge of elections all the alliance partners everyone was under my armpit I was the one in charge of that process.
I am the one who took the name to ZEC to register. I went to ZEC on the last day to register all the candidates under MDC-T, unfortunately, when I arrived at ZEC, Madam Khupe had already registered as MDC-T.
So, I came back, and I reported to Chamisa, to say my friend MDC-T has been registered. He was not willing he did not want to use the MDC Alliance for the elections until the last minute around 4 pm because we had no choice.
He grudgingly agreed. He said okay let us now use MDC Alliance because he knew very well that MDC Alliance was not a party.
It was just an umbrella it was just a trade name.

The name MDC Alliance was adopted by seven political parties that entered an election partnership in the 2018 general elections.
The parties were MDC-T, MDC, PDP, Transform Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe People First, Multi-Racial Christian Democratic Party and ZANU Ndonga.
However, the name is now at the centre of a political wrangle between a Douglas Mwonzora MDC led faction and a Nelson Chamisa led MDC faction.

Chamisa Was Against The MDC Alliance Name - Komichi

The leader of opposition MDC Alliance, Nelson Chamisa has said there is an emergence of ZANU PF vigilante groups who are engaging in political violence without being punished.
He speaks amid reports that a convoy of his aides was blocked and attacked when it travelled to Masvingo Province for his provincial tour this week.
MDC Alliance claims the assailants were ZANU PF hooligans. ZANU PF denies the allegations suggesting that the opposition party staged the attack, that left some of the MDC vehicles damaged, to soil the image of the governing party. 
In a Twitter post this Saturday, Chamisa said the “vigilante groups” are state-sponsored. He said:

Zpf vigilante groups have immunity &amp; impunity. They’re state-assisted &amp; protected in their acts of terrorism &amp; unlawful operations. The stoning of cars, violence &amp; barricading of roads is criminal, stone-age&amp; primitive hooliganism. Peace is fragile!

The recent inter-arty and intraparty political violence that rocked come as Zimbabwe is scheduled to have general elections in 2023.
Some political analysts have predicted that the elections will likely be marred by violence, like in 2008.
Stakeholders including the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum have castigated the violence within ZANU PF and against the opposition saying it affects democracy.

Chamisa Speaks On "The Rise Of ZANU PF Vigilante Groups"

Opposition MDC Alliance has reported that party leader, Nelson Chamisa was this Tuesday chased by “angry ZANU PF hooligans” in Masvingo as he commenced the Provincial Tour. Said the party on social media:

President @nelsonchamisa was warmly received by citizens in Chiredzi who repeatedly chanted “Ngaapinde Hake Mukomana.” We are advised that ZANU PF hooligans reacted angrily, chasing the President’s convoy ‘movie style’ in the town.

In a later update, MDC Alliance said the assailants had encircled Chamisa. Read the update:

The President has been encircled by hooligans at a place he’s temporarily taken refuge. The Provincial Leadership is currently mobilising youths to rescue him.
The four cars followed the convoy to Chiredzi Town where two full trucks of hooligans waited to attack the president. The security team had to quickly move the President to a safer place.
A silver Nissan Caravan AFG 9047 and three Nissan NP 200s without plates were used to chase the President from Triangle via the sugar plantation to Chiredzi. The Nissan Caravan attempted to side swipe the President’s car before the driver sped off.
President <a class="link-complex" data-user-name="nelsonchamisa" href="https://twitter.com/nelsonchamisa/" rel="noopener user" target="_blank">@nelsonchamisa</a> is safe. He left the scene of the attack unharmed. We thank all our provincial members for standing ready to defend the President and the party. MDC Alliance also reported that its provincial youth member, Admire Chifamba, “was stoned by ZANU PF hooligans but the police sided with ZANU PF hooligans and arrested the victim, Admire.” 
The governing ZANU PF says the “alleged” attacks are choreographed to convince the United Nations that Zimbabwe deserves to be under sanctions. The UN is sending a rapporteur, Alena Douhan from Belarus, to assess the impact of sanctions.

ZANU PF Hooligans Chase Chamisa's Convoy ‘Movie Style’ - MDC Alliance

The opposition MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora and MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa have agreed to field one candidate to contest council elections in Matabeleland South Provice. 
Over 80 council by-elections are pending across the country, and more than 40 parliamentary seats are vacant after the MDC-T recalled legislators and councillors affiliated with the MDC Alliance.
However, by-elections were suspended by the government due to COVID-19 regulations.
MDC-T’s Matabeleland South provincial executive has said it is opposed to recalls and wants unity talks with other opposition parties to ensure victory against Zanu PF. 
The party’s chairperson in the province, Ekem Moyo, who is former Gwanda South legislator, said:

We are planning on having one single candidate from the MDC Alliance or MDC-T so that we push the Matabeleland South agenda. The electorate is clear that it wants a united MDC. 

</blockquote>
On Friday, the provincial executive led by Moyo, provincial secretary-general Younger Moyo and organising secretary Bekezela Maplanka met a number of MDC Alliance councillors in Gwanda to strike a unity pact. 
He added that they were working with councillors from the MDC Alliance adding that they were elected and should not be sacrificed or fired as that might be against the interests of the electorate.
In terms of section 129(1)(k) of the Constitution, legislators and councillors can be recalled at the instigation of the party that got them elected into Parliament.
Electoral watchdogs like the Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN) have, however, expressed concern over the slow pace in implementing electoral reforms ahead of the by-elections and general elections in 2023.

MDC-T And MDC Alliance Pact: To Field 1 Candidate In Mat South By-Elections

Zanu PF party Sunday claims it did not influence the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) to ‘bar’ the opposition MDC Alliance from participating in stakeholder meetings on electoral developments.
Zec last week invited other political parties to provincial meetings to discuss the legal framework, the electoral cycle, voter registration, delimitation, and the polling process in preparation for future elections.
MDC Alliance was not invited, the commission cited a non-existent court challenge over the use of the name and also “absence of guidance from powers that be”.
The opposition party said the development was evidence that the ruling ZANU PF had captured ZEC. 

However, Zanu PF director for information Tafadzwa Mugwadi Sunday rubbished the claims. Mugwadi told NewsDay:
<blockquote>
 For the entire duration of their existence, they have been chasing shadows.
They see Zanu PF everywhere. It is not by mistake because we are the popular party. We are also popular among them, and that is why if they have differences, they quickly point fingers at Zanu PF.
It is not unusual. We are used to that and they should brace themselves for a thundering defeat in 2023. As Zanu PF, we don’t believe that winning elections is on the basis of raising a cocktail and encyclopedia of complaints to Zec. That is not our approach to elections. Our approach is rooted in the people, and we are among the people. That is where our strategies exist, simple as that.
</blockquote>
Zec chief elections officer Utoile Silaigwana last week claimed no party had been barred from the stakeholders’ meetings, contradicting earlier reports by the commission’s deputy chairperson Joyce Kazembe. 

MDC Alliance has, over the years, blamed Zec for electoral fraud, citing the 2008 elections when the commission withheld the results for over a month.
MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa in 2019 threatened to boycott the 2023 elections if ZEC is not reformed claiming that it connived with ZANU PF in 2018 to manipulate the presidential election results in favour of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

ZANU PF Denies Influencing ZEC To 'Bar' MDC Alliance From Stakeholder Meetings

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has excluded the opposition MDC Alliance from its provisional consultations in provinces meant to discuss electoral developments saying they don’t know who the MDC Alliance is.
The commission is rolling out programmes to discuss the electoral concerns, the legal framework, the electoral cycle, voter registration, delimitation and the polling process in preparation for future elections.
An internal memo indicated that Zec was waiting for instructions from unnamed authorities regarding the MDC Alliance issue.
Speaking to NewsDay on Wednesday, Zec spokesperson commissioner Joyce Kazembe confirmed that the MDC Alliance was not invited. She said:
<blockquote>
We did not extend our invitation to MDC Alliance to be part of a stakeholder meeting because the matter regarding the name MDC Alliance is still before the courts.
Now we don’t know who MDC Alliance is before the court’s final judgment, hence we could not invite MDC Alliance. We can’t acknowledge it until the court judgment. As it stands, we await the court judgment to be able to work with MDC Alliance, just like other political parties in Zimbabwe.
</blockquote>
MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the development was confirmation that ZEC was partisan and serves the interests ZANU PF. She added:

 The MDC Alliance is the biggest political party in the nation. There is no lawful excuse for barring it from stakeholder engagement.
We are the only political party that has put forward an alternative Electoral Bill. In line with our reform agenda, we have published our principles for reliable, inclusive and credible elections in Zimbabwe as an alternative to the present electoral policies that do not bode well for democracy…
</blockquote>
Political analyst Rashweat Mukundu it was not for ZEC to determine who is and who is not a political party adding that barring the MDC Alliance makes Zec an interested party in the fights in the mainstream opposition.
He added that the latest “error” exposed Zec as unqualified to run elections in Zimbabwe, and called for its disbandment.

We Don't Know Who MDC Alliance Is - ZEC

Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa (Independent) on Thursday expressed frustration with the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance’s perceived “docility” in the face of recalls of its MPs and councillors, says he feels no sorrow for their plight.
Mliswa recently raised a motion in Parliament to debate a constitutional provision allowing political parties to recall elected officials. He said:

Recently, I moved a motion in Parliament to debate the Constitution’s section 129(1)(k). It is the part responsible for the incessant recalling of elected members.
However, it was disturbing and unfortunate that only (Dzivarasekwa MP) Hon (Edwin) Mushoriwa had the guts to debate it.
As an independent MP, the section has no relevance to me. However, their docility warrants that there is no mercy for their plight.
They should have the resolve in their party. They have shown none and I will close the debate in Parliament.
</blockquote>
Mliswa is pushing for constitutional changes so that parties do not have unilateral powers to recall MPs or councillors.
He said the electorate should have the responsibility to choose or recall elected officials and that the Constitutional Court should have the final say if a party wanted to recall a sitting MP. Added Mliswa:
<blockquote>
Citizens should be involved. Members should not be sitting ducks but should have opportunities to respond to requests for recalls.
Imagine how many recalls have been done under section 129(1)(k) and the amount of money wasted.
It’s a waste of taxpayer’s money which could have gone to various developmental programmes.

Meanwhile, MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora has recalled over 40 MDC Alliance MPs and more than 80 councillors after a Supreme Court ruling in March last year declared Chamisa as illegitimate leader of the opposition party.

MDC Alliance's 'Docility' Frustrates Mliswa

MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa said the biggest problem the party is facing is infiltration by Zanu-PF. Chamisa was speaking at the celebrations of the party’s 22nd anniversary held in Bulawayo on 11 September 2021. 
The celebrations were cut short by the police who said the event had not been approved.
Said Chamisa:

We know our biggest problem has been infiltration. You see someone given a position by Zanu-PF, see someone going to State House. When you joined the organisation you were not at State House you joined in your branch, why should you go to State House? For what? Why do you want to be paraded like a brahman that is being auctioned? 
Why, cheapening yourself? To lose integrity and dignity for what reason? Just because you have been given money. Life is not about money and trinkets that don’t matter.
So today as we celebrate 22 years, some are asking us, celebrating as who?’ We are celebrating the journey of this struggle, we are celebrating the idea that we have been out there for 22 years. We have seen it all. A lot has been thrown at us but we are not collapsing. We are standing and tell you what the party has grown bigger than what it was. What was done by Hichilema we will multiply by 10 here.
You have seen what has happened to our party, you have seen what has happened in Parliament, it’s now a playground for crooks. Parliament is no longer a legitimate body that has a reflection of the representation of the people because legitimate representatives have been withdrawn and replaced by unelected people.
It tells you that illegitimacy that was buffeting Mnangagwa’s seat has now migrated into Parliament so we now have illegitimacy in Parliament. Illegitimacy is the biggest problem in this country. We have people who are not elected in Parliament but what is the way forward? The only way forward is what I am now going to give you as we go we have seen Zanu-PF authoritarian consolidation dramatised – recalled, seeing people do this and that.

Chamisa’s remarks follow recent defections from his party to Zanu-PF by some members.

"Our Biggest Problem Has Been Infiltration" - Chamisa

Opposition MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa has dismissed as false reports that there are some of its <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/09/04/seven-former-mdc-alliance-officials-join-zanu-pf/">members who defected to the ruling ZANU PF.</a>
MDC Alliance in a statement said the individuals in question had ceased to belong to the party therefore their move to join ZANU PF cannot be described as a defection. Pindula News presents the party’s statement on the matter.

Setting the record straight.
There have been no defections from the MDC A. The truth of the matter is this:
In 2012, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) cracked a whip on all members accused of corruption and those found guilty were subsequently expelled from the party.
The members who were fired from the party include Emanuel Chiroto Ward 42 Hatcliffe, Julius Musevenzi Ward 15 Warren Park, Peter Mudavanhu Ward 9 Glendale, Pumulani Musogwiza Ward 22 Hatfield among other members.
Following the party’s gesture to deal with corrupt activities, the duo of Chiroto and Musevenzi decided to join former Zimbabwe Vice President Joice Mujuru’s party, National Peoples Party (NPP) before it changed name to Zimbabwe People First (ZPF).
The two represented their new party in the previous election as NPF parliamentary candidates, but unfortunately, they lost dismally. 
Probably unhappy with the people’s decision, Chiroto went on to join another party, this time it was Dr Noah Manyika’s Build Zimbabwe Alliance.
As if that was not enough, Musevenzi and Chiroto did not dump their nomadic behaviour after they joined the MDC T following the controversial Supreme Court ruling in March 2020.
Chiroto was an executive member of the MDC-T Harare Province before he joined his new party ZANU-PF.
On the other hand, former Marondera Mayor Farai Nyandoro was never a member of MDC since 2014 until the time of his defection. 
Nyandoro left the MDC in 2014 to join PDP and after his then party split, he left with the faction led by Lucia Matibenga.
Just like his two other colleagues mentioned above, Nyandoro also joined the MDCT after the Supreme Court judgement and subsequently became the MDC-T Mashonaland East Provincial Secretary.
Sifra Chidhakwa, former Zengeza MP, lost the 2018 primary elections to Job Sikhala, unhappy with the electoral outcome, opted to participate in the 2018 elections as an independent candidate.
Chidhakwa’s gesture was in violation of the MDC constitution.
According to the constitution, Chidakwa automatically ceased to be a member of the MDC.
He then resurfaced at the MDCT congress in December 2020 following the politically motivated Supreme Court judgement.
He became a member of MDCT since that time until his recent move to ZANU PF.
Surprisingly, some of the so-called defection members were never part of the MDC even before 2014.
It’s very interesting how the regime has become so desperate to the extend of imposing members on our party.
The regime is good at employing command tactics but unfortunately, we as the MDC Alliance don’t need their command members.

MDC Alliance Speaks On Former Members Who Joined ZANU PF

MDC-T secretary for Information and Publicity, Nqobizitha Dumakile Khumaloreleased a statement on Friday 27 August noting that MDC Alliance principals held a meeting and acknowledged MDC-T leader, Douglas Mwonzora as the leader of the pact.
The MDC Alliance, a union of seven political parties, was formed in 2017 to unseat the ruling ZANU PF. There have been fights between the MDC-T led by Mwonzora and MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa over the name with each side claiming to be the legitimate one.

Today the MDC Alliance Principals Forum met under strict COVID regulations at Morgan Tsvangirai House in Harare. The meeting was chaired by MDC-T President Douglas Mwonzora. 
The various political party leaders acknowledged President Mwonzora as the leader of the MDC Alliance, in line with the constituting document of the pact. The meeting reasserted full commitment to the Alliance Agreement. 
The meeting, however, noted the continued abuse of the MDC Alliance name and symbols and urged those doing so to cease and desist forthwith. The meeting further agreed that it heartily welcomes and accepts any political players who subscribe to the MDC Alliance ethos. 
The meeting also deliberated and asserted its full commitment to inclusive, genuine and unconditional dialogue to end problems currently afflicting many Zimbabweans. 
The MDC Alliance Principals Forum also took the opportunity to warmly congratulate President Hakainde Hichilema on his recent election as the President of Zambia. The Forum noted the smooth transfer of power in Zambia and acknowledged the role all political actors played to facilitate the process.

"MDC Alliance Principals Forum Acknowledge Mwonzora As Leader"

Opposition MDC Alliance has said it has a plan to convert the people of Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe from supporting the ruling ZANU PF.
Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe is a perennial ZANU PF stronghold and has been a cause for concern for the opposition to date.
MDC Alliance Secretary-General, Chalton Hwende, said they have launched the party’s Diaspora Rural Mobilization Initiative. He said:

The party’s EU province echoed Hwende’s remarks saying MDC Alliance indeed had a plan contrary to reports by some. Said MDC Alliance EU on Twitter:

We've A Plan For Uzumba - MDC Alliance

Opposition MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa has hinted that another alliance is coming for the purpose of the 2023 elections.
Chamisa posted a picture of himself and former Finance Minister, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Simba_Makoni">Simba Makoni</a>, on Twitter prompting some of his followers to quiz him on the meaning of the picture. He captioned it as follows:

“We must lead differently and leave a legacy”-Dr Simba Makoni. I had a great conversation on the future of our great country. I’m always humbled and grateful for the solid wisdom I get from esteemed and eminent Zimbabweans who are a gift to us all.
</blockquote>
Some of his followers asked if Makoni was part of his Chamisa’s plan to dislodge the ruling ZANU PF from power. One of his followers, African Prince(Ticha) @MupfukudzwaT asked:

Chamisa responded suggesting that he was planning something big with the founder of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mavambo.Kusile.Dawn">Mavambo Kusile/Dawn party.</a> He said:

The response was interpreted as confirmation that the former ICT Minister was planning to form another alliance with politicians and political parties.
In 2017, MDC-T then led by the late former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai joined six other parties to form the MDC Alliance that was premised on defeating president Emmerson Mnangagwa.
There are disputes between MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora and the Chamisa-led party over who are the principals of the MDC Alliance. 
Mwonzora claims that he leads the 2017 alliance by virtue of being the leader of the MDC-T while Chamisa’s side is also claiming to be the real MDC that entered into the alliance.
Chamisa contested the 2018 presidential election on the MDC Alliance card but a 2020 Supreme Court ruling said he was not the legitimate leader of MDC which entered into the coalition.
The ruling created confusion as to who was the real leader of the opposition party.
Analysts believe that as the nation approaches the 2023 elections, clarity on the ownership of the name is important as that could be a source of confusion for the electorate.

Fireworks Loading! - Chamisa Responds To Another Alliance Question

A Kwekwe City councillor was last Thursday assaulted by MDC Alliance youths at the burial of Kwekwe<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/kwekwe-city-council-deputy-mayor-tobaiwa-has-died/"> deputy mayor Shadreck Tobaiwa</a> after claiming a high number of supporters of the Nelson Chamisa-led party were dying.
Councillor Joshua Tinago and a number of other councillors attended the burial of Tobaiwa who succumbed to Covid-19 last week.
While at the burial at the Kwekwe Central Cemetery, the councillor was heard saying Chamisa’s supporters were dying in their numbers.
His remarks infuriated MDC Alliance youths gathered, who were led by national youth secretary Ostalos Siziba, and some of them started attacking the councillor accusing him of being a defector.
Tinago confirmed the assault. He told NewZimbabwe:
<blockquote>It’s true! I was beaten by youths at the burial of the Kwekwe deputy mayor. I have since reported the matter to the police and the matter is under investigation.</blockquote>
MDC Alliance Midlands provincial spokesperson Takavafira Zhou also confirmed the assault. He said:
<blockquote>Yes, we received the news of the beating of Councillor Tinago. I was informed Councillor Tinago provoked the youths by insinuating that all people in the MDC Alliance were dying and in the end, Chamisa would be left with no credible leaders. As the MDC Alliance, we certainly feel a funeral is not a place to settle political scores, but to mourn.</blockquote>
Tinago defected from the MDC Alliance in 2020 and joined the rival MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora while Tobaiwa had remained in the MDC Alliance camp.
Kwekwe City Council had 14 councillors, one from Zanu PF and 13 shared between the warring MDC factions.
Five MDC-T councillors are Tinago, Silas Mukaro, Eric Rukavhairo, Mercy Ranga and Future Titora.
Last year, Titora was also attacked by MDC Alliance youths at another funeral in Kwekwe and failed to address the mourners.

MDC Alliance Youths Assault MDC-T Cllr Over Chamisa's "Supporters Dying" Remarks

All provinces are directed to invite aspiring candidates to make applications and submit Curriculum Vitaes (CVs) by 15 July 2021 for all vacant National Assembly and Local Government seats in respective provinces_ On receipt of these CVs the provincial executives should convene immediately to consider the CVs make comments and recommendations for each of the applicants. Provinces are then required to forward the CVs to the Secretary-General at secretarygeneral@ourmdc.co.zw, pmpariwa28@omail corn, and copy to the Secretary For Elections at gandhimudzingwa@yahoo.com. All applications must reach party HO by 22 July 2021. Please note that candidate vetting is reserved strictly for the Elections Directorate. MDC Alliance Is Preparing For By-Elections

Three MDC Alliance (MDC-A) youths were Friday arrested by police while conducting a door-to-door voter registration campaign in Bulawayo.
The three, Calvin Moyo, Phumzile Moyo and Thandiwe Mpofu were arrested in the city’s Pumula suburb.
MDC Alliance Bulawayo Provincial Spokesperson Swithern Chirowodza confirmed the arrests to NewZimbabwe.com. He said:
<blockquote>I can confirm that some of our youths were arrested today (Friday) while conducting door-to-door voter registration in Pumula.
The last time I spoke to them, they were being held at Pumula police station.</blockquote>
Chirowodza described the arrests as a form of intimidation to the main opposition’s supporters. He said:
<blockquote>The arrests are meant to intimidate MDC Alliance cadres and may be indicative of an agenda to slow down the party’s voter registration exercise ahead of the delimitation exercise.
It is common knowledge that ZANU PF has failed to capture seats in Bulawayo. Police are now helping Zanu PF to grab seats away from Bulawayo.</blockquote>
The party recently embarked on a massive voter registration campaign dubbed #RegisterToVoteZW.
Meanwhile, a lawyer from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) was assigned to assist the youths.
