Kirsty Coventry Stands Her Ground In COSAFA Standoff

Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry said that the Confederation of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) offered Zimbabwe a bad deal to host the 2019 COSAFA Cup.

Coventry said that she rejected the deal then, only for the regional soccer body to return with the same deal.

Writing on her Twitter page, Coventry declared that local sport needs to be sorted out. She said:

Hosting COSAFA this year was a bad deal. ZIFA agreement required USD2 million from Government and they showed Total Gate Takings from Tournament as $45,000.00. You do the math. Where do all the other Gate Takings go?

I told them to try again…they came back with the same agreement!!!!

Then COSAFA want a guarantee that Zimbabwe will host the Tournament next year to prevent a fine and suspension from the game in 2020? The same Agreement? Total Gate Takings USD$45,000.00. You do the math. Where do all the Gate Takings go?

Sport in Zimbabwe needs to be sorted out!
