PSL Rejects ZIFA Match Officials Pay Hike

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has rejected a proposal by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) to increase match fees for referees by over 100 per cent.

Zifa chief executive officer Joseph Mamutse wrote to his PSL counterpart Kennedy Ndebele on September 16 advising him of the changes with the new fees structure being backdated to September.

Ndebele responded to Mamutse by telling him that the new fees were too high given the current economic environment. Said Ndebele:

It is unbelievable that the proposed fees are backdated to 1 September 2019. The PSL clubs are finding it difficult to survive under the current economic challenges.

We, therefore, advise that we will continue paying the following match fees: $270 per match for the match commissioner and referee, and $240 per match for assistant referees until we receive reasonable and affordable proposals.

ZIFA had proposed that he centre official and match commissioner will each be paid $700.00 while the assistants and fourth official were to receive $600.00.
