The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) announced on Thursday that it has acquired 1.4 hectares of land in Borrowdale Estates, Harare, to build its first permanent headquarters.
Outgoing PSL chairman Farai Jere, whose term ends on December 31, announced the development during the unveiling of a plaque at the construction site.
The project will include modern offices, a training centre, a football pitch, a conference facility, and residential apartments. It will also house offices for women’s football. He said:

This is a historic moment. For over 32 years, the league has operated without a permanent base. This development signifies a new era for Zimbabwean football.
This site will serve as a home for the PSL, honouring the legacy of past players and administrators while paving the way for sustainable development.

Representatives from league sponsors Delta Beverages, Harare City Council, and the Sports and Recreation Commission attended the event.
Jere, who is running for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) presidency in the January 25 elections, said the land acquisition is one of his final goals as PSL chairman.
He will compete against Walter Magaya, Nqobile Magwizi, Temba Mliswa, Martin Kweza, Phillemon Machana, and others, all of whom must pass an ethics and integrity test.

Bulawayo Chiefs and Hwange were relegated from the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Saturday, November 23, and joined already relegated Arenel Movers and Chegutu, after they finished 15th and 16th on the log standings.
Bulawayo Chiefs took the lead before losing 2-1 at Manica Diamonds, while Hwange suffered a 2-0 loss against Bikita Minerals, who escaped the chop in the process.
Arenel Movers became the first team to be officially relegated from the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Chegutu Pirates will make their way back to the Northern Region Soccer League after just one season in the top flight, as was Arenel Movers.
Bulawayo Chiefs were the best placed of the relegation candidates as they had destiny in their own hands at Sakubva Stadium.
They needed three points without worrying about results elsewhere and they looked on course when they took the lead off a 62nd-minute penalty by Migoz Svinurai.
However, Manica Diamonds turned the tables with two goals in two minutes.
Evans Katema equalised from the spot in the 82nd minute and the goal was timely for his former club, Bikita Minerals, who were leading against Hwange at Wadzanai Stadium.
Michael Tapera then won the game for Manica Diamonds two minutes later.
This means that the 2025 ZIFA Southern Region Soccer League will have three teams from the PSL, that is Bulawayo Chiefs, Hwange and Arenel Movers.
Bulawayo Chiefs finished the 2024 PSL season with 36 points, followed by Hwange with 35 points, Chegutu Pirates on 33 points, and Arenel Movers at the bottom with 23 points.
Meanwhile, GreenFuel beat Dynamos 2-1 to complete the season unbeaten at home in the first full season using the GreenFuel Arene in Chisumbanje.

Simba Bhora, who had already secured the PSL title with a 2-0 win over relegated Arenel Movers earlier in the week, were undone by goals from Panashe Mutimbanyoka and Thando Ngwenya.
Mutimbanyoka opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, and Ngwenya sealed the victory for FC Platinum with a goal in the 85th minute.
Meanwhile, the 2023 PSL champions, Ngezi Platinum Stars, triumphed 4-0 over Herentals, with Obriel Chirinda scoring a brace, and Tinotenda Meke and Tanaka Munemo adding the other goals.
Chicken Inn secured a 3-0 victory over Bikita Minerals, who are still fighting to avoid relegation.
On Sunday, relegation-threatened Hwange fought back with a dramatic 4-3 win over Highlanders at the Colliery, keeping their survival hopes alive.
In another twist, Chegutu Pirates, despite a 2-0 victory over CAPS United, were relegated after just one season in the Premiership.
ZPC Kariba (38 points), Bulawayo Chiefs (38 points), Bikita Minerals (35 points), and Hwange (35 points) are still in the relegation battle heading into the final round of fixtures.

Dlodlo was found dead at his home in Nketa 9, Bulawayo, on Monday at the age of 60. Friends reported that he was last seen alive on Saturday, two days before his body was discovered.

A Facebook post he made on October 16 is now being viewed as a potential suicide note, raising concerns about his mental well-being prior to this tragic incident. In the post, Dlodlo wrote in Ndebele:

Simba Bhora solidified their position at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with a 1-0 victory over Bikita Minerals in a Match Day 25 encounter at Wadzanai Stadium on Saturday.
Former champions FC Platinum, currently in second place, could only manage a 1-1 draw against ZPC Kariba.
Last weekend, Simba Bhora defeated Bulawayo Chiefs 1-0, while FC Platinum experienced a setback, losing 1-0 to Bikita Minerals.
The decisive goal for Simba Bhora came from captain Walter Musona in the 32nd minute, securing maximum points for Tonderai Ndiraya’s side.
At Nyamhunga Stadium, Wilfred Muvirimi levelled the score for FC Platinum with a header in the fifth minute of injury time, cancelling out Fanuel Shoko’s earlier goal for ZPC Kariba.
In another match at Heart Stadium, 10-man Ngezi Platinum Stars ended their five-match winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Yadah FC, thanks to second-half goals from Obriel Chirinda and substitute Tinotenda Murasiranwa, keeping their title ambitions alive.
At the Green Fuel Arena, Green Fuel and CAPS United played to a 2-2 draw. Green Fuel’s goals came from Adrian Silla and Collins Dhuwa, while CAPS United responded with strikes from Eric Manokore and Jayden Bakari.
At Luveve Stadium, TelOne equalised in injury time through Kudzai Jason, forcing a 1-1 draw against hosts Bulawayo Chiefs, who had initially taken the lead with a goal from Panashe Shoko in the 32nd minute.
On Sunday, Dynamos returned to winning form, edging Chegutu Pirates 1-0 at Rufaro Stadium, with Freddy Alick scoring the decisive goal in the second half.
In Bulawayo, Highlanders suffered their first defeat in four matches, losing 2-1 to Herentals.
Elsewhere, Chicken Inn fell to Hwange, losing 1-0 following Dominic Chungwa’s fourth-minute strike.
The PSL postponed the match between Manica Diamonds FC and Arenel Movers FC, originally scheduled for Sunday, September 1, 2024, following the passing of Manica Diamonds FC’s team medic, Morgan Ashala.

Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum Stars return to action in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) this weekend for Matchday 25, after missing last weekend’s fixtures due to their participation in CAF interclub competitions.
Dynamos advanced to the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup by defeating ZESCO United of Zambia in the preliminary stage. They will now face Orapa United of Botswana in the upcoming round.
In contrast, Ngezi Platinum Stars were eliminated from the CAF Champions League following a tense penalty shootout loss to Congolese champions AS Maniema Union.

PSL Matchday 25 Fixtures: Yadah Takes On Ngezi Platinum Stars

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has rejected a request by Chicken Inn FC to increase gate charges for their match against Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
The Gamecocks, who use Luveve Stadium as their home ground, decided to host Bosso at the larger Barbourfields Stadium, presumably to accommodate the thousands of passionate Highlanders fans expected to attend the match.
Knowing Highlanders’ devoted fan base, Chicken Inn likely believed that hosting the game at the bigger venue would allow them to capitalize on the anticipated high attendance by hiking ticket prices, potentially providing a significant financial windfall.
However, in responding to Chicken Inn’s request, PSL Chief Executive Officer Kenny Ndebele stated that the standard gate charges would apply for the match.
Ndebele did not provide a detailed explanation for the PSL’s decision to reject Chicken Inn’s proposal, though in the past, similar requests from other clubs have been rejected. Wrote Ndebele:

We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 19 August 2024 and advise that your request to increase gate charges has not been approved.
Gate charges for your match against Highlanders FC shall remain as follows; Rest of Ground: US$3, VIP: US$5 and VVIP: US$10.
Meanwhile, football fans are divided over the move by the PSL to reject Chicken Inn’s request to hike gate charges.

Media consultant, Makomborero Mutimukulu, condemned the move and suggested that Ndebele has links to Highlanders. He said:

Maybe some teams are more equal than others. Chicken Inn must be feeling let down. And the fact that Kenny Ndebele has Bosso roots makes it even worse.

When Highlanders played FC Platinum, the Bulawayo giants again applied to increase gate charges, THAT WAS TURNED DOWN.
New boys Chegutu Pirates made an application to increase their gate charges against Highlanders at Baobab Stadium, THAT WAS TURNED DOWN yet the match attracted a paltry 1 069 paying fans.
It is undeniable that Chicken Inn are aware that Highlanders are on a roll and buoyed on by the 12th man, Barbourfields Stadium may be a nightmare for them hence increasing the charges would likely reduce the number of fans.

2024 PSL Season: Matchday 19 Fixtures And Venues - FC Platinum Host Ngezi Platinum Stars

In the latest Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) action, defending champions FC Platinum maintained their position at the top of the league table with a 3-1 victory over Chegutu Pirates at the Baobab Stadium on Sunday.
The Zvishavane-based platinum miners found the net through goals from Jarrison Selemani (19′), Davison Marowa (29′), and a late strike by Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya in the second half.
Chegutu Pirates managed to pull one back through a 74th-minute penalty conversion by Simba Domingo after FC Platinum defender Lawrence Mhlanga had handled the ball while trying to clear a corner kick.
With this result, FC Platinum now sits atop the PSL standings with 38 points, 5 ahead of second-placed Ngezi Platinum Stars, who secured a 1-0 win over Arenel Movers on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Simba Bhora, currently in third place, also have 33 points, the same as Ngezi Platinum Stars, after defeating Manica Diamonds, whose 10-game unbeaten run came to an end at Wadzanayi Stadium in Shamva on Saturday.

PSL 2024 Matchday 18 Results: FC Platinum Win Big, Bosso Beat DeMbare

A two-day workshop for Premier Soccer League (PSL) administrators commences in Harare this Thursday, with presenters expected to impart knowledge on the latest football administration trends.
This comes as the premiership is on its traditional mid-season break.
As reported by <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/back-to-school-for-psl-leaders/">The Herald</a>, some topics to be covered during the workshop include sports medicine, safety and security, match organisation, and the ever-changing laws of the game.
Nick Munyonga, a medical practitioner and member of the Premier Soccer League’s Sports Medicine Committee, will be featured as a key presenter. 
Munyonga also serves as the head of the Southern African regional anti-doping agency.
Norman Matemera from the ZIFA Referees Committee is expected to lead a discussion on the laws of the game, amid recent tensions between match officials and several club officials.
There is a perception among clubs that refereeing standards in the 2024 season have declined, while referees argue that club administrators and coaches have not kept up with recent amendments to the laws of the game.
Speaking to Zimpapers Sports on Wednesday, PSL communications and media liaison officer Kudzai Bare said:

We are having a workshop with football administrators tomorrow (today) and Friday as part of our efforts to raise the standard of football management and improve club operations…
Some of the topics to be covered include sports medicine, safety and security, match organisation, and laws of the game.

The league will also get feedback from clubs on issues to do with match organisation and safety.
We expect all PSL clubs to be represented.

Several matches have been marred by disruptions during the early stages of the 2024 Premiership season, particularly those involving Chegutu Pirates and CAPS United.
At Baobab Stadium on April 25, Chegutu Pirates’ match against Dynamos was abandoned in stoppage time.
The game came to a controversial end when Chegutu Pirates players refused to resume play in protest against a 97th-minute goal scored by DeMbare.
As a consequence, Chegutu Pirates incurred a US$2,000 fine from the PSL, and Dynamos were awarded three points with a 3-0 scoreline.
Similarly, on April 6 at Mandava Stadium, CAPS United’s match against FC Platinum was interrupted when their supporters invaded the pitch in dissent over a referee’s decision to disallow Ralph Kawondera’s equalizing goal in the 86th minute. Match Commissioner Brighton Mudzamiri subsequently called off the match.
As a result, FC Platinum were given three points by default with a 3-0 score, and CAPS United faced a fine of US$5,000.
The mid-season break arrives amidst ongoing challenges for Premiership clubs to meet the stringent requirements of CAF Club Licensing.
These stipulations encompass establishing a complete administrative setup, women’s and youth football teams, regular financial audits, and modernised infrastructure including offices and training facilities.

PSL Administrators To Attend Workshop On Latest Football Administration Trends

The Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League (PSL) will pay tribute to the late Norman Maroto, a former striker for Dynamos and Gunners, during the upcoming Matchday 17 fixtures this weekend.
In a statement issued by Kudzai Bare, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Communications and Media Liaison Officer, it was announced that all PSL clubs will pay tribute to the late Maroto.
During the weekend matches, clubs will observe a moment of silence before kick-off and players will wear black armbands in honour of the football legend. Said Bare:

This serves to advise that the Castle Lager Premier Soccer will be observing a moment of silence during matchday 17 fixtures scheduled for 29 to 30 June 2024 in honour of the late football legend, Norman Maroto.
PSL clubs are requested to participate in this tribute by wearing black armbands during their weekend matches.

Maroto, who was 40 years old, tragically passed away in the early hours of Friday, June 28, at a local hospital.
According to reports, he had been complaining of flu the previous day before his untimely death.

Nicknamed “Lumumba”, Maroto is the last player to score more than 20 goals in a season in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League.
He scored 22 goals for the now-defunct Gunners Football Club in 2010 to clinch the Golden Boot.
Maroto was a member of the renowned Dynamos Kidznet team, which was guided by the legendary coach Moses Chunga.
The Kidznet initiative was aimed at infusing the Dynamos squad with a youthful injection of teenage talents, and Maroto was part of this exciting project.
Alongside him were other promising young players such as Samson Choruwa, Eddie Mashiri, Nyasha Chazika, and Leo Kurauzvione.

Premier Soccer League To Honour Norman Maroto

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) break was shortened due to the postponement of the 2024 COSAFA tournament.
Originally scheduled to resume on 22 June 2024, the PSL matches will now recommence a week earlier, on 15 June.
The opening match features defending champions Ngezi Platinum Stars facing Chicken Inn at Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro.
Simba Bhora will host PSL debutants Arenel Movers, while log leaders Manica Diamonds travel to Yadah.

PSL 2024 Matchday 15 Fixtures And Venues

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) is taking a three-week break to accommodate the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and the COSAFA Men’s Competition.
In a statement issued this Tuesday, 28 May, PSL Communications and Liaison Officer Kudzai Bare said the toplight league will take a break from 01 June and resume on 22 June 2024.
She said the rescheduled match between Herentals College and Bikita Minerals will be played on Saturday, 01 June, at Rufaro Stadium. Said Bare:

The Warriors host Lesotho in their next FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa on 07 June.
They will then play against South Africa on Matchday 4 at Free State Stadium, Bloemfontein on 11 June.

Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League Takes Three-week Break

Former Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions FC Platinum beat Dynamos 1-0 at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane on Sunday, taking their total points tally to 28, just a single point behind log leaders Manica Diamonds, who have accumulated 29 points after matchday 14 fixtures.
Wilfred Muvirimi scored for Pure Platinum Play which inflicted a third loss for the season on the Glamour Boys.
DeMbare are now 10 points behind Manica Diamonds after being awarded the abandoned match against Chegutu Pirates on a 3-0 scoreline in a ruling made public on Friday evening.
This means all of DeMbare’s four wins this season have come against newly-promoted sides, that is Bikita Minerals, TelOne, Chegutu Pirates and Arenel Movers.
Dynamos’s match against Chegutu Pirates was abandoned just after DeMbare had scored the game’s only goal in second-half stoppage time.
Meanwhile, in the other matches played on Sunday, Manica Diamonds’ top marksman Fortune Binzi’s 82nd-minute strike secured all three points for the Ngoda Boys against Hwange at Sakubva Stadium.
At Green Fuel Arena, ten-man Highlanders came from behind to snatch a point against the hosts Green Fuel.
Lynoth Chikuhwa scored his 7th goal of the season late in the match, cancelling out Bruno Mtigo’s first-half goal.
Arenel Movers and Bulawayo Chiefs played a goal-less draw while visiting Simba Bhora beat CAPS United 2-1 at Rufaro Stadium.
The top six on the log standings are as follows: Manica Diamonds (29 points), FC Platinum (28 points), Simba Bhora (24 points), Highlanders (22 points), Chicken Inn (22 points), and Ngezi Platinum Stars (21 points).
