Controversial Ntabazinduna traditional leader, Chief Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni has reignited his anti-establishment stance by calling for the resignation of President Emmerson Mnangagwa for allegedly running down the Zimbabwean economy.
Addressing reporters in Bulawayo on Tuesday, Chief Ndiweni urged citizens to take advantage of tomorrow’s planned anti-sanctions marches and call for Mnangagwa’s resignation. Said the chief:
Those who wish to join the sanctions march on October 25, go out, join the marches and call out loudly for Mnangagwa and his administration to resign because of their failed sanctions strategy.
Mnangagwa has failed to manage our economy and now wants us to believe it is because of sanctions. That logic has no credibility.
Chief Ndiweni was at one point warned by the government after he called for additional sanctions on Zimbabwe’s ruling elite.
He was subsequently arrested and handed an 18-month jail term for destroying a villager’s property, while his co-accused 23 other villagers were given a community service sentence by the magistrates’ court. He is currently out of custody on $500 bail pending appeal.
