An internal audit at Chitungwiza has earthed some anomalies that show that ghost workers who left the council 8 and 4 years ago are still being paid by the council Daily News reports.
According to the publication:
The payroll system is down since February 2019. They use previous payrolls and make manual adjustments to it. This system opens floodgates for corruption as figures are manipulated for personal gain at the council’s expense.
The audit also showed that the council was paying hefty benefits like 2 vacations a year, school fees for 6 children etc for the HR Head a position that doesn’t exist in the council’s organogram.
