Chitungwiza Town Council is poorer than Epworth, Harare Provincial Affairs and Devolution secretary Tafadzwa Muguti, has said.
Muguti said this when he congratulated the newly-elected councillors of Chitungwiza Town Council on Monday.
He said the local authority’s mandate was clear, as stipulated in the Constitution of Zimbabwe and the Urban Councils Act Chapter (29:15).
Muguti challenged the councillors to improve service delivery in the dormitory town where flowing raw sewage has created permanent “streams”.
Unlike Epworth, considered by some the poorest residential area in Harare Metropolitan Province, Chitungwiza doesn’t have a single traffic light. Said Muguti:

Local authorities in Zimbabwe play an important role in promoting sound local governance and undertaking and coordinating urban development to enhance the socio-economic development of Zimbabwe.
Chitungwiza Town Council is one of the largest local authorities, but you are the poorest, even Epworth has more money than you. It is time to build a better Chitungwiza.
</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Lovemore Maiko (Cllr Ward 7) bounced back as the Mayor of Chitungwiza and will be deputised by Jerita Mutigwende (Cllr Ward 12). Maiko takes over from Kiven Mutimbanyoka.

Chitungwiza Is Poorer Than Epworth, Says Tafadzwa Muguti

Councillor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lovemore_Maiko/">Lovemore Maiko</a> of Ward 7 was re-elected as the Mayor of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chitungwiza_Municipality/">Chitungwiza town</a> in Zimbabwe on September 18, 2023. Alongside him, Councillor Jerita Mutingwende from Ward 12, both representing the CCC party, was chosen as the Deputy Mayoress. Maiko secured 31 votes in the election, surpassing Leah Chidamba of the ruling ZANU PF who received only two votes.
The election process was overseen by Mr. <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tafadzwa_Muguti/">Tafadzwa Muguti</a>, the Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution. Speaking after the election, Muguti said:

I expect councillors to support, respect and work hand-in-hand with the mayor and deputy. I also ask for discernment and being able to understand that the moment you are elected, you’re not a political appointee, but a full government official. We take our politics, be it Zanu PF or CCC, to our party offices. The moment we come here, residents expect to see city fathers and mothers who are going to help and lead them.

During his acceptance speech, Mayor Maiko expressed his commitment to prioritise the well-being of the residents. He acknowledged the responsibility and leadership required to provide reliable and quality service to the municipality’s residents, emphasising his dedication to fulfilling this duty. He said:

I accept this with a huge sense of responsibility and the agency of leadership in delivering quality service to the residents of our municipality reliably. Councillors are residents first before they are aldermen, and collectively we shall remain conscious of this and plan, implement and evaluate within the framework of this position.

Maiko was first elected Mayor in 2018, but in March 2022 was recalled by the opposition MDC-T, led by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Douglas_Mwonzora">Douglas Mwonzora.</a> He is one of dozens of councillors and legislators who were recalled by the MDC-T since the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/04/02/full-supreme-court-ruling-on-mdc-leadership-crisis-case/">2020 Supreme Court ruling</a> on the MDC leadership crisis. 
In Chitungwiza, there are a total of 33 Councillors. Among them, 25 were elected as Ward councillors, while the remaining 8 were selected through proportional representation. ZANU PF has three councillors representing them in the municipality.

Councillor Lovemore Maiko Re-Elected As Mayor Of Chitungwiza Town

Outgoing Chitungwiza acting mayor Kelvin Mutimbanyoka has claimed that he cleared the 47-month salary backlog and improved service delivery in the Municipality during his time in office.
Mutimbanyoka succeeded former mayor Lovemore Maiko who was recalled by the MDC-T.
Addressing journalists in Chitungwiza this week, Mutimbanyoka said when he became acting mayor, there was chaos in Chitungwiza. <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200016087/chitown-council-clears-47-month-salary-backlog">NewsDay</a> quoted him as saying:
<blockquote>
I want people to appreciate where we are coming from as Chitungwiza Municipality. l joined council in 2018 as a councillor and in August 2021, l was elevated to the office of deputy mayor.
I then became the (acting) mayor of this town and that is when most of the transformation happened at the council. When I became the [acting] mayor for sure it was all chaos.
Workers were not being paid, nothing was happening in terms of service delivery, and obviously, councillors had been messing around.
When l got into this office, the first thing l had to tackle was corruption and land was being sold out of council business.
We cautioned the people against being hoodwinked by land barons. l stopped that chaos and council took over its responsibility.
We had a problem with our workers. We had so many ghost workers. Workers had salary arrears going as far as 47 months, we cleared the 47 months’ salary backlog, as we speak.
They are getting 30 percent of their salaries in US$. We decided to set a target for all the managers: every head of department needed to account for everything they were doing.
The work culture and ethic are impressive. Our people are working, and the service delivery is being given to the people.
</blockquote>
Mutimbanyoka said the African Development Bank donated US$1.8 million, with most of the money going towards improving the sewer, drainage system and restoration of the tower lights. He added:
<blockquote>
We have since bought two tipper trucks,  a grader and a compactor roller. We also bought a backhoe and we have computerised all the departments.
</blockquote>
Chitungwiza, just like the majority of urban councils dominated by the opposition, has failed to deliver services to residents.
Chitungwiza is notorious for land barons, “rivers” of raw sewage and perennial unavailability of potable water.

Chitungwiza Municipality Clears 47-month Salary Backlog

Police in Harare have arrested a man named Moses Chitara (36), who claims to be a prophet, for forcing his pregnant girlfriend to take three tablets that caused the termination of her pregnancy. In a statement seen by Pindula News, police said the incident happened at a house in Unit N, Seke, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chitungwiza/">Chitungwiza</a> on May 26, 2023. Reads the statement:
<blockquote>
Police in Harare have arrested a self styled prophet, Moses Chitara (36) in connection with unlawful termination of pregnancy which occurred at a certain house in Unit N, Seke, Chitungwiza on 26/05/23. The suspect forced his pregnant girlfriend to take three tablets which resulted in the pregnancy being terminated.
</blockquote>
It is not known how the forced abortion was discovered or how far along the pregnancy was at the time of termination.
<h3>Abortion in Zimbabwe:</h3>
Unlawfully causing the termination of a pregnancy is a criminal offence in Zimbabwe, punishable by law. The legal consequences depend on the circumstances, including the stage and method of termination, and harm caused to the woman. Offenders can face imprisonment for up to five years, a fine, or both. 
In Zimbabwe, the Termination of Pregnancy Act (Chapter 15:10) allows pregnancy termination under specific circumstances, and only qualified healthcare professionals are authorized to conduct the procedure. These circumstances include cases where the continuation of pregnancy endangers the mother’s life or would cause permanent injury to her physical or mental health, rape or incest, and where there is a risk of fetal abnormality or serious disability that would affect the child’s quality of life. The procedure must be performed by a registered medical practitioner in a designated medical facility with the woman’s informed consent. Failure to comply with the regulations is a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment.

Prophet Arrested For Forcing Girlfriend To Terminate Pregnancy

Zengeza West legislator <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Job_Sikhala/">Job Sikhala</a> and Zengeza West councillor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lovemore_Maiko/">Lovemore Maiko</a> recently denied a charge of disorderly conduct when they appeared for trial before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda.
Police officer Keffus Kumurai and Zanu PF supporter Pardon Chitembwe were brought in as witnesses and testified that Sikhala and opposition supporters initiated violence against Zanu PF supporters. The witnesses claimed that a fight broke out between the two political parties and police had to intervene. 
Keffus Kumurai told the court that he was patrolling in Zengeza while a Zanu PF gathering was being held at the Zengeza 5 grounds. He said suddenly a white lorry appeared with 40 people, including Sikhala. He told the court:
<blockquote>
The people were in yellow coloured clothing.  I ordered them not to proceed to the Zanu PF gathering and Sikhala said they were doing a door-to-door campaign, which was not mandatory for them to notify the police.
They initiated violence led by Sikhala against Zanu PF supporters.

Officer Kumurai testified that a fight broke out between the two political parties and police had to park their vehicles between the two political party camps. However, a statement produced in court by the same policeman claimed that supporters of both parties threw stones at each other. The police officer suggested that this may have been the result of a typing error.
Pardon Chitembwe claimed that the opposition supporters were carrying stones in the truck and that Lovemore Maiko was giving more stones to the youths to throw at them. Chitembwe also accused Job Sikhala of throwing a stone that hit one of their members, Shepard Tawodzera. Chitembwe stated that he is the secretary for security in the ruling party.
The trial is set to continue on June 15.

Police Officer, ZANU PF Supporter Testify In Sikhala, Maiko Disorderly Conduct Case

The Harare Metropolitan provincial authorities have ordered the closure of all unlicensed and unclean food outlets in the four local authorities of Greater Harare as Harare reports 307 cases of cholera in various suburbs, ranging from overcrowded Mbare to leafy Mount Pleasant.
The metropolitan province now has the second-highest number of cholera cases since the outbreak began three months ago, with Manicaland reporting the highest number of cases. Other provinces that have reported cases include Matabeleland South, Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central, and Masvingo. The province is implementing a range of prevention measures, including the closure of dubious food outlets. Harare Metropolitan Provincial and Devolution Permanent Secretary Mr Tafadzwa Muguti said:

During this outbreak all local authorities have been directed to stop all unlicenced shops and unclean food outlets from operating in open spaces.
All shops, restaurants and food outlets to have clean toilets with running water. 
</blockquote>
The local authorities are Harare City Council, Chitungwiza Municipality, Epworth Local Board and Ruwa Local Board.
The Harare Metropolitan authorities have called on schools and office buildings to ensure that toilets have running water and soap. The area is facing two major problems related to water and sanitation.
The proliferation of unplanned and illegal settlements without sewers and piped water, and the run-down state of Harare City Council’s water purification plants, which operate at only half their capacity. The council is attempting to rectify these issues by closing down contaminated wells and distributing non-food items to prevent the spread of disease.
Cholera outbreaks continue to plague Zimbabwe. In Manicaland, village health workers are conducting disease surveillance and education, while officials are monitoring public gatherings to contain the spread. Mashonaland West is struggling to provide medical attention to a community rooted in religious belief, leading to resistance to scientific solutions.
Health experts are providing water samples, aqua tabs, and disinfection, and raising cholera awareness. The government has activated civil protection units, provided supplies, and offered refresher training for health workers.

Harare Closes Unlicensed Food Outlets As Cholera Outbreak Hits 307 Cases

The incident happened moments after he performed Ibotso, a song from his latest album, Eureka Eureka.
Police officers, some in plain clothes, surrounded Winky D before they dragged him off stage just after 10 PM, according to <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/police-shut-down-winky-ds-performance-in-chitungwiza/">ZimLive</a>.
Thousands of fans at Dam View Chikwanha Blue Roof Grill and Bar sang ‘Siyayi Gaffa’ in support of the Musarova Bigman hitmaker.
Winky D was sharing the stage with several other musicians including Saintflowmusic and Tocky Vibes.
The 40-year-old’s recent songs reflect Zimbabweans’ daily struggles including poverty, corruption and unemployment.
His songs have created enmity between himself and authorities in Harare who believe he is a mercenary sent to champion the regime change agenda through music.

Winky D Dragged Off Stage By Police

A 29-year-old woman from Chitungwiza has been sentenced to six months in jail following her conviction for bigamy after getting married to two husbands.
The suspect, Thelma Guvakumwe, married her lover under customary marriage while she was still in a monogamous marriage with her first husband.
However, her jail term was commuted to community service after she was initially sentenced to six months in prison.
She will perform 105 hours of community service instead of serving the jail term.
Allegations were that Guvakumwe left her first husband, whom she was legally married to, saying she was pursuing further studies.
The matter came to light after her first husband discovered that Guvakumwe was not at school and had gone on to marry her lover.

Chitungwiza Woman Sentenced To Six Months In Jail For Marrying Two Husbands

A 27-year-old Chitungwiza man who allegedly <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/chitungwiza-man-stabs-wifes-boyfriend-after-catching-him-in-bed-with-his-wife/">stabbed to death a man he found bedding his wife</a> in their matrimonial home last week has appeared before a Harare magistrate.
The court heard that on November 29, Elliott Gadzikwa of Zengeza 3, Chitungwiza went through his wife’s mobile phone after suspecting her of infidelity and saw love messages from the now deceased whose name is still unknown.
Gadzikwa allegedly started texting back pretending to be his wife and went on to trap the now-deceased by luring him to his house using his wife’s mobile phone.
It is alleged that the accused person hid outside his house waiting for the now-deceased to enter his home, <a href="https://zbcnews.co.zw/2022/12/04/chitungwiza-man-arraigned-before-the-courts-for-murdering-his-wifes-lover/">ZBC News</a> reported.
The court further heard that when the now-deceased got into the house, he met the accused person’s wife, Rumbidzai Mudzipuri, and moments later Gadzikwa dashed into the house where he stabbed the now-deceased in the neck leading to his death.
The court heard that after the incident Gadzikwa together with his wife fled the scene leaving the now deceased in a pool of blood.
Gadzikwa was remanded in custody and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Update On Chitungwiza Man Who Killed Wife's Boyfriend

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a murder case in which a man from <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chitungwiza">Chitungwiza</a> stabbed to death his wife’s boyfriend after catching them in bed at his house.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, the suspect, Ellington Gadzikwa fled with his wife after stabbing the victim. Read the statement:

The ZRP is investigating a murder case in which Ellington Gadzikwa allegedly stabbed an unknown male adult after he had found his wife and the victim in his bedroom with the doors locked in Zengeza 3, Chitungwiza, on 29/11/22 at around 1900 hours. The suspect persuaded his wife to unlock the door, and he locked it from the inside before stabbing the victim with a kitchen knife. After the incident, the suspect fled with his wife and left the victim lying in a pool of blood in an unlocked room.

Reported cases of infidelity have been rising and some of them result in the death of some parties. Some are killed by their partners or their partners’ spouses while some resort to committing suicide.

Chitungwiza Man Stabs Wife's Boyfriend After Catching Him In Bed With His Wife

Plaxedes Mashasha, an elderly woman from Zengeza 3, Chitungwiza, appeared in court on Thursday and was further remanded in custody to 9 December.
Mashasha is being accused of keeping her husband’s corpse in the house for about a week.
She also allegedly confined her son, Grant (39) to the ceiling of their house for the past 14 years.
Regional magistrate, Clever Tsikwa, said Mashasha must be tested for mental illness first before her bail application is heard.
Mashasha reportedly filed a sudden death report to the police and the cops discovered the body of her husband in a decomposing state.
She said her late husband suffered a stroke in 1992 and had been using a wheelchair until his death.
Mashasha said they had five children together and Grant was the fourth born.

Woman Who Kept Hubby's Corpse To Spend Two Weeks In Custody

A woman from Zengeza, Chitungwiza has been arrested after the corpse of her husband, which was now in a decomposing state, was found in her house.
Her son, only identified as Grant, has been staying in the house but neighbours claim they last saw him more than twelve years ago. A neighbour told <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/living-with-a-corpse-gogo-spends-five-days-with-husbands-corpse-son-spends-14-years-living-in-ceiling-at-home/">H-Metro</a>:
<blockquote>
We used to see Grant 14 years ago and, after that, Gogo Mahlahla was the only person we would see.
Taivawona vachibuda nekudzoka vakatakura bag ravo vakapfeka zvechechi.
Her other children are based outside the country.
Her husband was last seen in a wheelchair more than five years ago.
</blockquote>
Gogo Mahlahla filed a sudden death report to the police and the cops discovered the body of her husband in a decomposing state.
They called the Homicide Section to attend the scene. 
Police had to engage some volunteers to get Grant from the ceiling, according to H-Metro.
There were fears Grant could be violent since he was not responding to questions from police detectives.
Gogo Mahlahla told H-Metro that her late husband suffered a stroke in 1992 and had been using a wheelchair until his death.
She said they had five children together and Grant who was the fourth born is aged 39. Gogo Mahlahla said:

I joined church after discovering that evil spirits were haunting my family.
My husband was refusing to accompany me to church to receive prophecies related to our family.
Ndakaudzwa kuti Grant ndiye akadirwa mamhepo ose. “Andiparadzira midziyo yose inosanganisira geyser, television set and radio.
He is a possessed man.

She refused to answer questions about why she was living with her husband’s corpse for days.

Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo has appointed a four-member tribunal to probe the allegations of misconduct against six suspended Chitungwiza Municipality CCC councillors.
Moyo said Chitungwiza Municipality would bear the costs of the inquiry.
The councillors are former mayor Lovemore Maiko, former deputy mayor Musa Makweza, CCC chief whip Richard Chamutsa, Peter Matiringe, Kudakwashe John and Chengetai Nyagondo.
The six were suspended on 10 October after they convened an “illegal” meeting on 07 October where Maiko was reinstated as mayor.
Chitungwiza had been without a mayor since March this year when Maiko was recalled by the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T.
Efforts to hold elections to replace Maiko failed to take place since March after Harare Provincial Affairs and Devolution secretary Tafadzwa Muguti, acting mayor Kiven Mutimbanyoka and more recently a ZANU PF councillor Reginald Mashingaidze approached the High Court to block the move.
The councillors, however, went ahead and re-elected Maiko on 7 October leading to their arrest for convening an illegal council meeting.
Minister Moyo said a tribunal to investigate the CCC councillors would be chaired by Advocate Rachael Chibaya. Wrote Moyo:

July Moyo Probes Chitungwiza CCC Councillors

A 46-year-old Chitungwiza man died on 3 November while being intimate with a sex worker, police revealed this week.
Denis Chikabura visited Petronella Musanda’s residence in Zengeza 5 soliciting transactional sex.
It is alleged that while in the act, Chikabura had difficulties in breathing, leading to froth and blood coming from his nose.
Musanda reportedly informed the deceased’s young brother, Tirivangani Chikabura, who then ferried him to the hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival. A police report said:

A report was made at ZRP Zengeza and the scene was attended by the ZRP Zengeza team led by Number 062476H Sgt Vukomba contactable on 0772 492 007. No visible injuries were noted on the deceased’s body.
At the scene there was a blanket, two pillows with some blood stains and these were taken to ZRP Zengeza as exhibits.
The deceased was taken to Chitungwiza Central Hospital mortuary number 976/22 for post-mortem.

Chitungwiza Man Dies During Sex With A Sex Worker

The Minister of Local Government and Public Works, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/July_Moyo">July Moyo</a>, has suspended six <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chitungwiza">Chitungwiza</a> councillors including former mayor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lovemore_Maiko">Lovemore Maiko</a> for convening an illegal meeting last week.
The suspended councillors are members of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party led by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a>, a former minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services during the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Government_of_National_Unity">Government of National Unity (GNU)</a>.
The Herald reports that during the alleged illegal meeting, Maiko was illegally re-elected mayor despite a pending court case.
Other councillors suspended are:

According to the suspension letters, minister Moyo said there were reasonable grounds for suspecting that the councillors committed acts of gross misconduct, gross incompetence and wilful violation of the law.
Minister Moyo said the suspensions were in line with Section 114 (2) of the Urban Councils Act (Chapter 29:15) as amended by the Local Government Laws Amendment Act number 8 of 2016.

Local Government Minister Moyo Suspends 6 CCC Councillors In Chitungwiza

An assistant clerk at a private school in Chitungwiza appeared before a magistrate’s court for allegedly swindling the school of US$5 000 through fraudulently varying figures on receipts, <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/school-clerk-up-for-us5-000-fraud/">The Herald</a> reported.
Fungai Mudzuto (28), employed by Cornerstone Primary and Secondary Schools, appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mrs Winfilder Tiatara charged with fraud.
<h2>Allegations:</h2>
Prosecutor Ms Monalisa Karemba told the court that between May and July 2022, Mudzuto stole money meant for school fees from Cornerstone schools by receipting higher amounts on issued copies of the receipts given to parents.
The alleged offence was discovered after school director Ms Elizabeth Makuwane demanded that the pupils pay all owing school fees, and they produced receipts showing that they had made full payments, while the receipt book copies showed they had paid less.
Fungai Mudzuto pleaded not guilty.
She was remanded to October 10 for the start of her trial.

Clerk In Court For Allegedly Swindling The School Of US$5 000

Chitungwiza residents staged a flash demonstration on Friday demanding the release of detained Zengeza West Member of Parliament (MP) Job Sikhala.
The demonstration was held about 300 metres from Chitungwiza Central Police Station, where a multitude gathered, blocking roads, chanting and holding placards.
Sikhala was arrested in June together with a fellow legislator, Godfrey Sithole, and 14 Nyatsime residents activists for allegedly inciting the 14 June violence which erupted during the funeral wake of slain Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist, Moreblessing Ali.
They have been in prison since then with courts denying them bail.

The opposition party led by Nelson Chamisa, a former Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services during the Government of National Unity (GNU) claims that President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the judiciary are weaponising the law for political expediency.

Sikhala's Continued Detention Spark Protests In Chitungwiza

A 42-year-old woman has accused a Chitungwiza man of raping her in his office after she had gone to sign a contract.
Edmore Khumalo reportedly promised the woman (name withheld) a partnership contract in a security company and invited her to his office for her to sign a contract as chief executive officer.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed receiving the case. He said:

Police are investigating a case of rape, where the victim was invited to an office, to sign documents for a promised job.
On August 11, the complainant was invited by the accused to his office to sign contract papers as CEO of a security company.
On August 13 at around 11 am, the complainant went and signed the contract papers.
It is alleged that the accused then locked the door and went to sit on the complainant’s legs.
The complainant tried to fight back, but he overpowered her and started fondling her breasts, and raped her, without using protection.
She made a police report on August 23 and was referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for a medical examination.

Chitungwiza acting mayor, Kelvin Mutimbanyoka says council employees, including management, were sabotaging an ongoing operation against illegal structures.
He speaks amid a demolition blitz on illegal structures that started on July 14 in which over 20 structures have so far been demolished. <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/2022/08/im-being-sabotaged-chitown-acting-mayor/">NewsDay Zimbabwe</a> quotes him as saying:

I have realised that a lot of council employees and management are involved in the illegal parcelling out of land and they are now throwing out spanners in my way.
They are now working against me by constantly stalling the programme. Some of them are working in cahoots with land barons. We are doing an internal investigation. We want to bring sanity to this town. The days of lawlessness are over.
</blockquote>
This is not the first time Chitungwiza Municipality has demolished illegal structures in the dormitory town, having done so over the years, but the structures keep reappearing, while some owners have resisted the demolitions through the courts.
Last December, the municipality was forced to stop the planned demolition of some properties after the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) protested against the local authority’s actions.
Meanwhile, Marondera town councillors were yesterday divided over plans to demolish illegal shops and buildings in the town’s central business district (CBD).
Marondera town is witnessing an emergency of illegal structures in open spaces.

Chitungwiza Acting Mayor Says He's Being Sabotaged

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), a subsidiary of the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA), has advised Chitungwiza residents that power outages in some parts of the dormitory town are caused by a fault. In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZETDC said they were working to restore power. Reads the statement:

ZESA Speaks On Power Outages In Some Parts Of Chitungwiza

At least 135 residential, industrial and commercial properties built near the Mbudzi roundabout in Harare are set to be demolished to pave way for the construction of 14 bridges and bridge-like structures at the new traffic interchange.
Construction at the site has already started. 
The Government has engaged three valuers, one of them from the Public Works, while two others are independent ones, to carry out the assessment of those affected. 
<a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/135-properties-to-make-way-for-mbudzi-interchange/">The Herald</a> reports that those affected will get full compensation from the Government.
The Mbudzi roundabout is at the intersection of Simon Mazorodze, Chitungwiza and High Glen roads that feed traffic from western Chitungwiza and many old and new suburbs into Harare city centre, as well as the heavy national and regional traffic on the Harare-Masvingo Highway.
In an interview, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development’s permanent secretary Engineer Kudzanai Chinyanga said they were happy with the progress being conducted at the Mbudzi traffic interchange by the contractor, Tefoma Group. He said:

So far the last time we were here we were talking about this bridge which is bridge number two. Bridge number two is the one which carries traffic towards High Glen, Glen Norah and the like.
So far on assessment of the project, we are excited and hoping that the contractor is keeping the progress. However, the drawback is that it has taken us more than we anticipated to conclude the compensation issues which are still ongoing.
We have completed the valuation of all affected properties. We want to ensure that each and every affected citizen is not disadvantaged at all and that they are paid a fair compensation.
We have one group of affected citizens with title deeds, one group of citizens who are on leases. So we will deal with them separately. Those who are on leases are mainly on the Hopely side.
There is a plan to get land quickly, put up some core houses for them and then move them. We will not leave anybody without shelter and this we are putting up arrangements to ensure that once we conclude with them, we agree with them, we move them and make sure that everyone is accommodated.

Eng Chinyanga said those with title deeds, the Government was considering two options with one of them being for them to identify properties of their choice of equivalent value and then Government pays.
He said in total, there were 14 bridges that were to be constructed at the interchange and out of these, five were already under construction.
Chinyanga added that when constructors start working on the main bridge, the junction will be closed completely. 
He added that they were going to install traffic lights and humps to control the speed at the main junctions. 
In two to three weeks’ time, the intersection will be shut down and those that need access to their properties near the intersection will be given special stickers to pass through.

About 135 Houses, Shops Near Mbudzi Roundabout To Be Demolished

Members of the public have commended the decentralisation of e-passport issuance services to areas such as Chitungwiza where a passport office was <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/05/11/govt-opens-e-passport-centre-in-chitungwiza/">opened on the 10th of May 2022.</a>
In addition to decongesting the Harare Passport Office, the decentralisation of passport issuance services brings services closer to the people. A beneficiary spoke to ZBC News:

Members Of The Public Commend Issuance Of Passports In Chitungwiza

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it will thoroughly investigate the shooting of two civilians by police detectives as they exchanged fire with a robbery suspect in Chitungwiza on Monday.
Chitungwiza residents have complained about the shootings after the victims, who had nothing to do with the suspected armed robber, were critically injured by stray bullets.
In a post on their Twitter page on Thursday, 30 June, ZRP pledged to probe the incident, saying they will not seek to hide anything from the public. <a href="https://twitter.com/PoliceZimbabwe/status/1542536177248571394">Reads the post:</a>

The ZRP is aware of the complaints by the residents of Chitungwiza in connection with a shooting incident where two people were shot.
The police assures the public that investigations on the alleged misconduct by the police will be thoroughly investigated and nothing will be swept under the carpet.

In a statement on Tuesday, Senior staff officer, press and public relations, assistant commissioner Paul Nyathi said:

Police received a tip-off and located the suspect at Taita Shops. The suspect noticed detectives approaching and drew an Airgun pistol from his jacket (and pointed) it at the detectives.
In response, the detectives fired a warning shot into the air and later shot towards the suspect (but) missed him.
The suspect dropped the pistol and fled into the bushes where he got into an unregistered red Honda Fit vehicle and drove off towards (the) Chitungwiza-Hwedza Road.
After about an hour, it emerged that the bullet which missed the suspect had hit Tashinga Mugwara and Pamela Muchazorwei.
The two victims sustained serious injuries and are currently admitted at Chitungwiza Hospital and Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, respectively.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police deeply regrets the unfortunate shooting of the two and urges the public to quickly move away from crime scenes, especially when armed robbers are confronting police.

Police "Aware" Of Residents' Complaints About Chitungwiza Shootings

Former ZANU  PF Manyame district chairperson, Tina Gweshe, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/06/26/another-zanu-pf-leader-in-nyatsime-has-died/">who died on Sunday</a> is believed to have been poisoned after she attended a party last week.
Her death came hours after another ZANU PF leader, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/George_Murambatsvina">George Murambatsvina</a>, the ZANU PF chairman for Nyatsime, had also died under unclear circumstances.
Reports suggest that the duo was part of the ruling party’s members who blocked some members of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) from attending a memorial service for their slain colleague, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_Ali">Moreblessing Ali.</a>
The blockade resulted in chaos in the area and<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/06/14/nyatsime-chitungwiza-house-of-zanu-pf-chairman-murambatsvina-set-ablaze-video/"> Murambatsvina’s house was set ablaze</a> by alleged CCC supporters. He is said to have suffered serious injuries and stress from the violent incident. ZANU PF retaliated in the evening of the same day two weeks ago by burning 26 homes of people perceived to be supporters of the CCC.
Some believe the deaths are caused by the vengeful spirit of Moreblessing Ali whom the CCC claims was killed by ZANU PF members including <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Pius_Jamba">Pius Mukandi</a> alias <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Pius_Jamba">Jamba</a> who has since been arrested over the matter. 
Some claim that ZANU PF was killing its members to get rid of evidence that could suggest the murder was politically-motivated.
Ali was abducted outside a nightclub in Nyatsime on May 14 and her mutilated remains were discovered on the 11th of June in a disused well at a farm in Beatrice, about 10km away from where she was taken.
The Herald yesterday visited the area where ZANU PF supporters were mourning their two leaders.
Most of the supporters emphasised the need for peace and warned CCC members against perpetrating violence. The supporters also held a peaceful demonstration at Chibhanguza Shopping Centre where they castigated the opposition supporters including their leader Nelson Chamisa.
They were holding placards with some of the messages reading, “CCC is responsible for the death of our chairman Murambatsvina”, “Job Sikhala uri mhondi kupisa dzimba dzedu”, and “Mhondi ngadzisungwe”.
There was also a heavy police presence in a bid to ensure that law and order is maintained.
In an interview, ZANU PF Councillor for Ward 9 in Seke Constituency, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Masimbi_Masimbi">Masimbi Masimbi,</a> confirmed that Murambatsvina had been suffering from stress after his house was burnt down. The Herald quotes Masimbi as saying:

After his house was burnt down by CCC hooligans, he was affected by stress and that is when he collapsed last night before we ferried him to hospital where he later passed on.
It is however disheartening to note that this violent incident, which is against the wishes of our leader President Mnangagwa who has always been preaching the need for peace, has affected Cde Murambatsvina.
</blockquote>
Murambatsvina’s brother, Mr Paul Murambatsvina, said they had lost a breadwinner who was taking care of the family.
Kudzanai Kavhukatema, the youth chairperson for Manyame district, said they were still shocked by the death of Murambatsvina adding that the deceased had not been well following the violence a fortnight ago. 
Mercy Vengesai said they were now living in fear since most of the people in the area have been receiving threats from CCC supporters.
Chairperson for Chaminuka Central in Nyatsime, Getrude Kwira said:

Since the violent incident, all has not been well in this area and this has led to the death of our two senior officials. Cde Murambatsvina died of stress while our former chairlady died in mysterious circumstances. She was left at her home while not feeling well and we suspect that she was poisoned.
</blockquote>
Paradzai Mhondiwa, the youth chairman for Chaminuka Central District, said they hope the law will take its course on those arrested for perpetrating violence and that police will also arrest those that are still outstanding.
Among the arrested are CCC legislators, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Job_Sikhala">Job Sikhala</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Godfrey_Sithole">Godfrey Sithole</a>. Both <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/06/17/sikhala-sithole-spend-third-night-in-jail/">deny the charges</a> through defence lawyers Jeremiah Bamu and Alec Muchadehama who say the charges against their clients were a creation by the state.

Nyatsime: ZANU PF Leader Believed To Have Been Poisoned

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is appealing for information that may lead to the identification of a murder victim whose body was found near Zengeza 2 High School in Chitungwiza on 18 March this year.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the deceased was struck with a brick by unknown assailants and later succumbed to his injuries at Chitungwiza General Hospital. Said Nyathi:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information that may lead to the identification of a murder victim aged between 30 and 40 years who was found along Dhumukwa Street near Zengeza 2 High School in Chitungwiza on 18th March 2022.

ZESA Speaks On Power Challenges In Chitungwiza

Boreholes being sunk under the Presidential Borehole Scheme spearhead by Prevail International in partnership with the ruling ZANU PF party are expected to address perennial water challenges in Chitungwiza.
Residents of St Mary’s in Chitungwiza have been recycling and reusing water from dishwashing and laundry for a prolonged period of time. 
Beatrice Shenje, a young mother in St Mary’s suburb said the absence of running water exposed them to unhealthy living conditions. She said:

We don’t even have a tap here because running water is not available, so we fetch water a distance away and store it in buckets.

Mr Paul Tungwarara, Prevail International CEO, said solar-powered boreholes are being sunk under the Presidential Scheme to restore the provision of safe tap water in the suburb. He said:

The programme is progressing well so far we have sunk 15 holes and they should be 20 by Tuesday. From then, we expect to have tanked and solarised. From St Mary’s we are moving to Harare East and expect to sink 60.

ZANU PF St Mary’s aspiring Legislator Nobert Jinjika said his constituency has never seen tap water therefore borehole water is a relief. 
He said they will finish installing the boreholes and President Emmerson Mnangagwa will launch them all at once. 
ZBC News reports that fifteen boreholes have been sunk during the past week in St Mary’s, with the programme targeting to complete 40 in Chitungwiza.
Most urban areas have struggled to access portable water regularly with local authorities citing the inadequacy of resources as the main challenge.

Boreholes Expected To Address Perennial Water Challenges In Chitungwiza

The Presidential Borehole Drilling scheme has been set in motion, with Chitungwiza being the first beneficiary of the initiative aimed at eradicating the perennial water challenges. 
The Presidential Borehole Drilling scheme was initiated by the Zimbabwe Youth Presidential Support Organization (ZYPSO).
Chitungwiza, located 9km south of Harare city, has been experiencing acute water and sewer challenges in the last two decades owing to the collapse of an efficient reticulation system in the opposition-led urban council.
The repercussions have weighed heavily on residents and other ratepayers. ZBC News quotes one elderly resident as saying:

We had become so accustomed to recycling and reusing dirty water, we have tap water once a week and having water at the local borehole was a challenge due to politics. For the past 15 years, water has been a challenge and as an elderly person, I couldn’t get access and ended up buying a 20-litre bucket of water for US$1, I had no option.

Tempter Paul Tungwarara, President of the Zimbabwe Youth Presidential Support Organisation said:
<blockquote>
We are going to all areas in Harare so all people can have access to water, what we are doing is, drill a borehole, put a solar system and put taps, we are moving away from bush pumps system and putting modern systems so that everyone gets access to the water.
</blockquote>
ZANU PF St Mary’s Candidate, Nobert Jinjika said at least 20 boreholes are scheduled to be drilled in the dormitory town and they will be used by all residents despite one’s political orientation.

Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme Launched In Chitungwiza

Recalled Chitungwiza mayor and Ward 7 councillor Lovemore Maiko said he doesn’t regret supporting Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa after he was recalled early this week by MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora.
Maiko was notified of his recall through a letter sent to him by the acting town clerk Evangelista Machona dated 1 March 2022.
Speaking to New Zimbabwe, Maiko said his recall did not come to him as a surprise as he knew it was coming. He said:

These days recalls are now being done on the basis that you are no longer an MDC member; this has been happening for a long time now and there is nothing surprising about this.
I was elected under the leadership of Nelson Chamisa and that is why I am being recalled, it is something that I knew was coming and despite all that, I will continue serving the people which is my community that elected me to office.
</blockquote>
Part of the letter to Maiko from Machona, that also had a letter attached from the Local Government Minister July Moyo, read:
<blockquote>
Kindly be advised that we are in receipt of the attached letter from the minister of local government and public works, honourable J.G Moyo dated 1 March 2022 informing council that you have been expelled from your party, the Movement for Democratic Change (T).
In view of the above, kindly be advised that you are no longer a councillor for Ward 7 and the ward is now vacant with effect from 2 March 2022.
Please ensure that you surrender any property that belongs to the council and the acting chamber secretary through the audit manager.
