Zimbabwe Records 9th Coronavirus Case... Vic Falls Patient's Contacts To Be Retested

The Ministry of Health and Child Care on Thursday said one more person has tested positive to COVID-19, bringing to nine the total number of confirmed cases in Zimbabwe.

The latest case involved a 50-year old male resident of Harare who had travelled to the United Kingdom and returned home on March 21.

After exhibiting symptoms consistent with the novel coronavirus, the rapid response team assessed him from home and took samples for testing, which came back positive.

Meanwhile, of the nine cases that have tested positive in the country, five are imported while four are local transmissions with links to the imported cases.

Epidemiology and Disease Control director in the Ministry of Health and Child Care Dr Portia Manangazira recently said the first COVID-19 positive case’s 10 contacts all need to be retested after they came back negative.

Dr Manangazira said those contacts might have tested them too early.

A 38-year-old male from Victoria Falls who had returned from the United Kingdom was the first COVID-19 case confirmed in the country on March 20, 2020.
