The development was confirmed by Air Zimbabwe spokesperson Ms Firstme Vitori last night saying the flight was on its way back to Harare, but could not reveal the exact time of arrival. Speaking to The Herald, she said:

I can confirm that the flight is on its way, but I will only know the arrival time when it lands in Johannesburg.

The returnees students were unable to come back home due to the worldwide coronavirus lockdowns and the subsequent cancellation of most commercial flights.

The Herald reports that parents were asked to pay at least US$1 000 each to bring back the students on the chartered flight.
