The nonpartisan United States Commission on Presidential Debates has announced Thursday morning that the second presidential debate will be virtual.
This comes as President Donald Trump has just been released from Walter Reed hospital where he was admitted for coronavirus treatment.
Both Trump and the Democrats’ candidate, former Vice President Joe Biden had however expressed willingness to debate in-person should the president test negative for COVID ahead of time.
Biden had said he and Trump ‘shouldn’t have a debate’ as long as the president remains COVID positive.
Meanwhile, Trump claims that he has been cured of the disease.
The United States goes to the polls in a few weeks time when the collapsing economy and soaring coronavirus cases are hamstringing Trump’s bid to retain the presidency.
