An errant motorist has been arrested for negligent driving after a video went viral on social media in which his motor vehicle hit a pedestrian at traffic lights in Harare.
According to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Herbert Chakanyuka ((57), hit Mitchelle Kamupfumo (7) at the traffic lights controlled intersection of Liberation Legacy Way (Borrowdale Road) and Harare Drive. Said Asst Comm Nyathi:
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that the suspect, Herbert CHAKANYUKA (57) has been arrested and the victim has since been identified as Mitchelle KAMUPFUMO (7).
The suspect is being charged for, “Negligent driving and Failure to stop after an accident, failure to report an accident and failure to render assistance after an accident” and the case is now pending before the courts.
