Suspected Cellphone Thief Dies At Police Station

A suspected cellphone thief died Thursday last week at Bindura Police Station where he had gone to file a report over an assault by his seven colleagues who are still at large.

Reports suggest that Saddam Chinguwo, a Bindura-based illegal miner was assaulted on Wednesday night and visited the police station the following morning to report the case.

Bulawayo24 was told that Chinguwo’s body was conveyed to Parirenyatwa hospital for postmortem. Virginia Dombo a family member said:

We are still gathered in Bindura since we are still waiting for the body that went for postmortem, he was accused of stealing a cell phone and they took turns to assault him on Wednesday night, on Thursday he died at Mazowe police station where he was trying to make a police report.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) usually urge members of the public to avoid taking the law into their hands as that might cause loss of life.

Many people have been dying following mob justice or vigilantism, a traditional way of communities to deal with criminals or the high level of crime.
