The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has declared Chenjerai Mumbire (ZANU PF) the duly-elected councillor for Ward 21 of Masvingo Rural District Council following elections that were held on 25 June.
In another development, ZEC has cancelled by-elections for Manyame Rural District Council Wards 1 and 8 after the rescission of the recall of the incumbents by their sponsoring party. ZEC said in a statement:
IT is hereby notified, for general information that following the conduct of the by-election held on 25 June 2022 in Ward 21 of Masvingo Rural District Council, Mumbire Chenjerai of the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU PF) party was duly elected Councillor effective from the date of the election.
It is further notified that the advertised vacancies for Manyame Rural District Council Wards 1 and 8 are no longer in existence following the rescission of the recall of the incumbents by their sponsoring party.
Accordingly, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission advises that all electoral processes in relation to the advertised by-elections have been cancelled with immediate effect.
