Makandiwa's church introduces swipe machines for tithe as cash crisis worsens

Emmanuel Makandiwa‘s church, United Family International Church becomes the latest congregation to incorporate swipe machines as a way for its congregants to give their tithes.

The New York Times interviewed Mercy Chihota, 33, a member of the church and she confirmed the development and had this to say,

In churches, offerings had plummeted because parishioners used the little cash they could withdraw for food and other basic necessities. Now many churches accept tithes by debit cards, cellphone payments or wire transfers.
