Emmanuel Makandiwa, the leader of the United Family International Church (UFIC), has predicted that the ruling ZANU PF and President Emmerson Mnangagwa will win the forthcoming August 23 elections. Makandiwa confidently declared that the ruling ZANU PF party would emerge victorious with a significant margin. He said, if Zanupf loses the election, his followers should then find another man of God.
This revelation has sparked intense speculation and debate throughout the country, as citizens eagerly await the election outcome to see if his prophecy comes true.
Some critics argue that religious leaders should not only focus on election predictions but also address pressing issues such as human rights abuses, corruption, and political vices in the country. Norton Member of Parliament (Independent), Temba Mliswa said:

It’s tiresome how these supposed men of God keep posturing about prophesying who the winner of the elections will be without also speaking out against the many human rights abuses, corruption, violence and other political vices plaguing the country.

As the election date approaches, Zimbabweans find themselves torn between hope and scepticism, eagerly anticipating the unfolding events. The nation awaits the verdict on August 23, which will shape Zimbabwe’s future. Several self-proclaimed prophets including Nigerian pastor, Samuel Akinbodunse, have made predictions stating that opposition leader Nelson Chamisa will emerge victorious in the upcoming elections, following his loss in the contentious 2018 presidential election.
<h3>Effects of Makandiwa’s “Prophecy”</h3>
Makandiwa’s “prophecy” about the upcoming elections can impact voters in various ways. It may strengthen the support of his followers for the ruling ZANU PF party, reinforcing their beliefs. The prophecy could also lead undecided voters to reconsider their choices or become more cautious. However, it might also result in voter apathy among opposition supporters who feel that the outcome is predetermined, leading them to potentially give up on voting altogether.
Religion has played a significant role in Zimbabwean politics throughout history. Before colonialism, traditional governance relied on spirit mediums who influenced the selection of kings. During colonial rule, Christianity was introduced and used by authorities to justify control. However, churches also became spaces for resistance against oppression. After independence, the government maintained close ties with religious leaders for nation-building. Nevertheless, concerns have arisen about the misuse of religious platforms by influential figures like Makandiwa, Walter Magaya, Nehemiah Mutendi, Uebert Angel, and Madzibaba Andyby to sway congregants towards political agendas, including support for the ruling ZANU PF party. Religion in Zimbabwean politics offers moral guidance, social cohesion, and resistance, but the blurring of boundaries between religious and political spheres raises questions.

Makandiwa Predicts ZANU PF's Win In August 23 Elections Sparking Controversy

In a recent speech, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said the State and the Church have a complementary partnership. We present his speech below:
Resting our politics, development on God

I recall our first meetings with Churches and Church leaders soon after our Independence. Rhodesian propaganda had painted freedom fighters darker than the devil. We were a godless lot, blue-dyed communists associated with all manner of devilry.
This Rhodesian narrative would be repeated daily and unremittingly, until a large part of the Rhodesian populace — both black and white — began to believe these blood-curdling propaganda stories mischaracterising us.
By contrast, white Rhodesia beatified itself as holy, carefully cultivating a self-image of a God-fearing civilisation created by a selfless generation of “Founders” who had come from afar, to redeem and Christianise a benighted race inhabiting a “Dark Continent”. Until the white man came, Africa was a continent living outside history; lived as a continent filled by a race which did not know God! This was the colonial narrative.
When Ian Douglas Smith declared his Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI), he claimed that he had “struck a blow for Christianity”, thus depicting UDI as Christian. The Anglican Church – the Church of the Settler Rhodesian State – was dutifully in tow, lending holiness to such apostate claims. That way, a colonial project by a foreign occupying power was characterised as Christian, and for the good and elevation of us Africans.
Colonialism was, thus, a God-send, not some racially oppressive system of foreign invasion and occupation.
The Church and State are inseparable
Rhodesia described itself as the last bulwark against “the black and red peril”. The “black peril” was represented by us Africans who threatened to overwhelm white civilisation through our overwhelming numbers, and by our culture described as rank heathenism.
The “red peril” represented communism whose diligent agents were “terrorists”, in this case our freedom fighters. These terrorists, so Rhodesian propaganda claimed, had been trained and “misled” by evil, foreign communist hailing from countries like the then Soviet Union, China and other progressive countries drawn from the Eastern Bloc, which supported our Liberation Struggle.
The communists had used their vile propaganda of communism to mislead an otherwise “happy” African populace grateful to be under British settler colonial rule!
Ogres of a godless creed
As events would have it, in the 1980 elections, we the so-called communist terrorists had now won a Commonwealth-supervised election, and had won it by a landslide. As a result, we had assumed the reins of Government in an independent Zimbabwe! The Patriotic Front, led by our late President, then as Prime Minister, Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe, and Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo, had to meet clerics, most of them raised on the staple of vile Rhodesian propaganda, in order to allay their deeply ingrained and held fears of us.
Only a handful of Church leaders, mostly Jesuits, had met with us as the Patriotic Front in Zambia, at the height of the Struggle. Those knew our humanity denied us by Rhodesian propaganda, and understood our cause which Rhodesia mischaracterised as foreign and communist-inspired. But these clerics were in the minority.
You also had a few missionaries who led rural parishes and, thus, had interacted with, and become exposed to, our freedom fighters operating in liberated and semi-liberated zones. Those, too, knew us and even supported our cause. Otherwise the rest of the erstwhile Rhodesian Church was led by religious figures who viewed us as ogres; figures whose view of us neatly fitted within the terrible persona created of us by Rhodesian propaganda.
I remember that in one of those early meetings, all clerics – to the person – voiced disquiet over our choice of ideology of Marxist-Leninism, which they characterised as a godless creed. They were disgusted that we, the agents of that terrible creed, had won elections, and taken over Government. We needed complete redemption! Could we not, the clerics opined, drop this godless creed for Christianity, of course, under their tutelage as Church leaders?
Healing wounds of colonialism
About the same time, our Ministry of Education, then headed by Dr Dzingai Mutumbuka, was transforming the curriculum to make our education more suited to the needs and values of a free Zimbabwe. Dr Mutumbuka worked with leading educationist-comrades like Dr Fay Chung and Sister Dr Janice Macloughlin. These comrades had developed curricula for our wartime schools. They now sought to adapt it to the needs of a free Zimbabwe, under the ZIMFEB Programme. Again, this raised more anxieties for the Church. From early colonial times, the Rhodesian Church had heavily invested in African Education; it ran the majority of schools for Africans in the country, right through to our Independence. Any changes to the curriculum, more so done by people long mischaracterised as proponents of communism – in their view a godless creed – was extremely disquieting to them.
After a long presentation by Church leaders – one by one and each representing a denomination – the message was stark and clear: our avowed ideology of Marxist-Leninism was unacceptable to the Church! When our turn came, the then Prime Minister, Cde R.G. Mugabe, rose to respond. He gave a long lesson in history, covering colonialism and the racial inequities it created, and the Liberation Struggle which that colonial rule triggered.
Later, he closed in on the issue of our choice of the ideology of Marxist-Leninism, expatiating what he understood it to mean. He also justified the Patriotic Front’s choice of it as an appropriate ideological framework for a post-Independent Zimbabwe as it sought to heal the wounds of a long colonialism, and in its quest to develop the country on egalitarian principles. He also drew parallels and similarities between our ideology and the values espoused by Africans under African communalism.
At the end of this long lecture to the clerics, he said: “We all came through Churches, to the number; we were raised by different denominations of the Christian Church, all of us in positions of leadership. I myself was raised by the Jesuits. We are practising Christians, practised Christianity even as we waged the Armed Liberation Struggle.
Ours was a just war, itself a notion developed by the Church.”
What followed next was dramatic. Cde Mugabe dipped his hands into his pocket and fished out a worn-out rosary.
He said: “This rosary has been with me throughout the war. It guided my faith and prayers daily; it still does to this day; will do so, right to my last days in this life!”
You can imagine the utter consternation from his audience at the sight of a worn-out rosary. The audience included the late Archbishop Patrick Chakaipa! Looking at the stunned clerics, the then Prime Minister declared: “If, as you say, Marxist-Leninism is godless, I say here and now: Give it a God!” That intervention changed relations between the State and the Church, laying a firm foundation to a partnership which endures to this day.
God-fearing leadership
Our struggle was led by a leadership raised by the Church. That Struggle was a just one. The State to emerge from it — the First Republic — was a God-fearing one. Its successor, the Second Republic, is God-fearing, and is built on values espoused by the Church. Our interaction with various denominations of the Zimbabwean Church is routine, and is predicated on a firm belief in a complementary partnership of State and Church. I cannot count the number of times I have held meetings with Church leaders; or even the many Church meetings I have attended and addressed, across denominations.
Last week was a turning point in this enduring relationship. As I addressed congregants at the historic Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield, I told my God-fearing audience that our twin mantras of “Nyika inotongwa nevene vayo” and “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” were incomplete, and fell short of the Holy Trinity at the heart of the Church, namely, that of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. To complete that Trinity, we needed something spiritual added. I then declared: “Nyika inonamatirwa nevene vayo!”
This new mantra we have added to our other two mantras, to form a credo of the Second Republic, comes from the heart. It is deeply held. All our politics, our policies and our programmes remain incomplete and unfulfilling until and unless we give them God.
My meeting with Church leaders of our country and, as happened late last week, from our region are meant to ensure that our politics are rooted in God. This is vital as our nation goes for polls. I continue to call on our Church leaders to pray for peaceful elections: before, during and after those elections. We should never tire of sermonising for peace in our land; indeed, praying for peace for our land; pray in our national languages and through our idioms, in our hearts and minds. God will hear us.
Divine favour
We develop our country using God-given resources. Looking at mineral resources we have discovered and are exploiting since the Second Republic, there is no doubt our nation enjoys divine favour. From a paltry US$2,5 billion turnover in mining before this New Dispensation, our mining sector is peeping the US$20 billion-mark, in the five short years we have subsisted as the Second Republic.
This is unprecedented. We continue to discover more minerals, no doubt through divine guidance.
The same salutary results show in most sectors, including in agriculture and in tourism. Both draw from our God-given resources, once more echoing the need to ensure we put God at the heart of our development.
Late last week, I received an utterly lifting progress report from Driefontain Mission. Our Catholic Church has embraced our mantra of Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo, and has started applying it in the Church. Through an investment vehicle the Catholic Church has dubbed Stella Mundi, it has embarked on an ambitious agricultural and value-addition programme, which the Church envisages will be rolled out to cover the whole country. The Bishops, led by Archbishop Ndlovu, have used the Church farm at Driefontain to tease out this new concept. As at last week, they had planted over 200 hectares of wheat, under seven centre pivots. More hectarage is being planted as I write. I thank the Catholic Church leaders for this salutary venture.
What is even more significant is that the funds the Church had mobilised for the project from well-wishers overseas were impounded by some Western country which has imposed sanctions on our country! They did not give up.
They approached Government and, together, we worked out a funding package for the whole project. Now it has taken off, and is set to expand and scale-up in intervening seasons. In due course, the Church will stand on its own.
The Catholic Church story is the story of our economy and of our country.
Looking inward
They say we should never waste a good crisis. As a nation, we have decided a bad crisis wrought by sanctions should be made good by us looking inward, and by us mobilising our own God-given resources. The lesson from Driefontain shows and demonstrates a lifting symbiosis between the three mantras we have coined for ourselves; and how, through them, we invent an enduring framework for a new partnership between the State and the Church. Both institutions, after all, serve the same person created in the image of God.

Mnangagwa's Full Speech: Resting Our Politics, Development On God

The United Family International Church (UFIC) founded and led by Emmanuel Makandiwa, officially opened its mega-church building in Chitungwiza on Sunday, 09 April.
The building, which accommodates 30 000 people was officially opened by Makandiwa’s Ghanaian spiritual father and mentor Victor Kusi Boateng.
Boateng heads the Power Chapel Worldwide, which is headquartered in Kumasi, Ghana. He said:

I thank the prophet for running the church smoothly. I think some nations can take lessons from him, the organisation and everything.
</blockquote>
Boateng was accompanied by the Ambassador of Ghana to Zimbabwe Alexander Grant Ntrakwa and Mayor Harold Moore of Wardley, Georgia, US.
Also speaking at the event, Makandiwa said the church intends to build another structure that will become the national headquarters in the near future. He said:

When we decided to build this structure initially our hope was to be able to accommodate everyone inside this building, but the numbers are even much bigger now.
This place can no longer be our headquarters and once we are done with this one we move on to the next project.
</blockquote>
UFIC spokesperson Prime Kufakunesu said the church was built by Makandiwa and his wife Ruth using their personal resources. He said:

The church was built by the prophet, his wife, and his family.

Construction of the church started in 2011 but was delayed due to clashes with authorities as it is built on a wetland. Said Kufa:

Although the construction began in 2011, we were stopped three times due to some municipal council issues.
We had to pay twice for the stand in the process and lost about six-and-a-half years of work.

Emmanuel Makandiwa’s "Spiritual Father" Officially Opens Chitungwiza Megachurch

United Family International Church (UFIC) founder and leader, Emmanuel Makandiwa, has said he has never bought an expensive car nor built an expensive house in his life.
Makandiwa said this while responding to people on social media platforms who had commented on his latest acquisition, a luxurious BMW 7-Series reportedly worth US$300 000.
Videos of the maroon BMW driving out of his Chishawasha Hills mansion along Enterprise Road sparked debate on social media.
Addressing his followers, Makandiwa said apart from preaching, he has a lot of products that help him make money. He said:

How do I respond to people when someone asks, what do you think of a prophet who buys an expensive car?
If I had to tell you what to say, you are not the right person to defend me. I would rather have that person ask me because I have never in my life bought an expensive car. If it was expensive, I would not have even bought it.
I don’t know what is wrong with people, I have only bought cheap cars, and I have only built cheap houses.
The problem is it is expensive for you. It’s your money that you want to use to buy what I have bought.
So, the term expensive, whose term is that? I am smart enough to know when the product is expensive and I will not buy it because I can’t.
Have I stopped sending my children to school because of a house that I have built? So vara rekuti expensive ririkubva kupi?

Makandiwa urged people to mind their own business and not poke their noses into other people’s business. He said:

Why do you think about people’s money? Some people think that all we do is preach; we are good at preaching.

Why? Because money is everywhere there is a problem. Where there is a problem, there is money. Ibva munyaya dzevanhu.

'It's Expensive For You, Not For Me', Makandiwa Speaks On His New Luxurious Car

United Family International Church (UFIC) founder, Emmanuel Makandiwa, has given more time to illegal settlers on a piece of land belonging to his church congregants to remove the structures and their materials.
On 19 September 2022, UFIC secured a court order to demolish about 300 illegal structures built on the piece of land in Retreat, Harare South.
The land belongs to UFIC congregants for a housing scheme, Operation Nehemiah Housing Project.
The squatters were supposed to be evicted within 48 hours from 21 November when they were served with an eviction order.
However, Makandiwa intervened and stopped the evictions and demolitions to give the squatters enough time to remove the structures on their own.
This was said by UFIC spokesperson Pastor Prime Kufa. He said:

The Man of God implored us to consider the plight of the affected families notwithstanding the fact that they are illegal settlers.
He instructed us to ask the Sheriff to give the settlers time to pull down their structures and rescue their belongings.
He said he is touched by their situation and also felt the anxiety among our church members who are bonafide owners of the land, thus his bid to find a win-win solution.
Look, it is the rainy season, it’s really a difficult situation but the Prophet believes the temporary reprieve will give the settlers some time to find alternative accommodation.

Makandiwa Gives Reprieve To Illegal Settlers

United Family International Church (UFIC) founder and leader, Emmanuel Makandiwa, has challenged Zimbabweans to appreciate and speak positively about what he considers infrastructure development taking place in the country.
Makandiwa was addressing his followers at the Chitungwiza Basilica on Sunday where ZANU PF national Political Commissar, Mike Bimha and his wife had visited.
Bimha’s visit followed instruction by President Emmerson Mnangagwa during his visit to the church during the Easter Holiday that he was supposed to frequently visit UFIC.
In his address, Makandiwa said the church should pray so that Zimbabweans can see the developments the government has done in terms of dam and road construction and airport expansion, among other things. He said:

You highlighted something which is very crucial, Dr Bimha that we have managed to stretch as a nation in terms of development.
However, not much is being said concerning the developments taking place and we are behind in terms of marketing ourselves globally. There is a lot that has to be known about us.
… As men of God, we need to deal with the cloud that hovers around this country because if it is not removed, the citizens will remain under that cloud.
There is need for prayer to be raised so that people can begin to appreciate good things.

In his address, Bimha urged UFIC as well as other churches to continue praying for peace and unity in the country. He said:

Unity is what we seek from Prophet Makandiwa and your church, and we ask you to pray for us. It is through your prayers that we are still living in peace. Other countries have wars every time.
Peace does not just come, it’s through your prayers. You might pray silently without making any noise about it, but we know that you pray for this country Prophet Makandiwa.

Makandiwa Says Zimbabweans Should Appreciate "Development"

Zimdancehall musician Seh Calaz, real name Tawanda Mumanyi, has defended United Family International Church (UFIC) founder and leader Emmanuel Makandiwa for inviting President Emmerson Mnangagwa to his church service on Saturday afternoon.
Mnangagwa, the First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa, and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga attended a church service at the UFIC International Easter Conference on Saturday in Chitungwiza.
Makandiwa has faced a lot of criticism following the event, with his critics asking why he praised Mnangagwa yet he doesn’t speak against human rights abuses as Biblical prophets did.
However, Seh Calaz says Makandiwa’s critics should just leave him alone as he has the right to freedom of association. In a post on his <a href="https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=546298570193204&amp;id=100044391967604">Facebook page</a>, the musician said:

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has commended churches for encouraging their members to be vaccinated against the coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) which has contributed to declining infection and mortality rates.
Mnangagwa was speaking on Saturday at the Emmanuel Makandiwa-led United Family International Church (UFIC) Easter conference held in Chitungwiza. <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/41-perish-in-easter-accidents/">He said:</a>

I commend the church for the prayers and mobilising our people to participate in the national COVID-19 vaccination programme.
To date, our infection and mortality rates have been minimal. I thank you all ministers of the religion for leading and standing with our great motherland, in much the same way as you stood with us during our purposeful and protracted liberation struggle against the oppressive minority white settler rule.
This is more so as this year’s international conference and Easter festivities coincide with the commemoration of 42 years of our country’s Independence.

Ironically, Makandiwa was initially against the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out, claiming that people will be implanted with microchips to monitor them.
However, in July 2021, Makandiwa assured his followers who were afraid of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine that there is no mark of the beast in the jab.
The Mark of the Beast is a cryptic mark in the New Testament’s Book of Revelation which indicates allegiance to Satan.
Speaking in a televised broadcast, the United Family International Church founder and leader said:

… there is no way that you can have a chip in the vaccine and I said how does it even travel through the syringe.
They are yet to have it that small in order for it to travel through the needle and I said that there is no chip in the vaccine.
There is no mark of the beast in the vaccine. Christians are afraid, fearing for their lives and trying to protect themselves and their loved ones from receiving the mark of the beast by receiving the vaccine. This COVID-19 vaccine is not the mark of the beast.

Mnangagwa Commends UFIC For Embracing Vaccination Against COVID-19

South Africa-based Zimbabwean social media troll, Tinashe Exevier Mutamiri, has apologised to United Family International Church (UFIC) leader Emmanuel Makandiwa for claiming he was killing people.
Mutamiri pulled down videos, which he had posted on social media attacking pastor Donald Mhandu and other pastors in Makandiwa’s church.
Mutamiri pulled down the videos following a directive by a South African court.
This was after Mhandu had approached the Gauteng High Court on November 9 seeking an interdict to bar Mutamiri from repeating the defamatory statements.
Through his lawyer Henk Horn, Mhandu successfully secured an order to compel Mutamiri to delete the defamatory posts, which accused the pastor of aiding Makandiwa to allegedly kill people opposed to his church.
In a video published online, Mutamiri said he did not apologise under duress. 
He apologised to Mr Donald Mhandu “for all the information that I was made to publish on my account, for all the defamatory statements, I would like to retract it.” He added:

Mutamiri also apologised to everyone he defamed on his Facebook account, claiming he was misled by faceless moles who eventually did not turn up to give their testimonies probably “because of fear that what they were saying was false.”

SA-based Zimbabwean Apologises For Accusing Makandiwa Of Killing People

Zimbabwean preacher, Uebert Angel has echoed the remarks of his Nigerian counterpart, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/07/28/watch-vaccinated-people-are-transmitting-the-virus-pastor-chris/">Chris Oyakilome who urged members of the public not to take the COVID-19 vaccine since it is the mark of the beast (the devil Satan).</a>

In Revelation, the last book in the Bible, the writer, John, predicts that there shall be a time, towards the end of the world when authorities will compel people to have the mark of the beast. John says those who will be without the mark of the beast will not get some goods and services. Revelation 13: 17 reads:

Another preacher, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/?s=makandiwa">Emmanuel Makandiwa this week vehemently claimed that the COVID-19 vaccine was NOT THE MARK OF THE BEAST,</a> a clear departure from his earlier remarks.
Makandiwa is now urging his followers who want to be vaccinated to get the jab saying they are safe adding that they will eventually get vaccinated even if they did not want to be vaccinated.
Health experts say vaccines give humans a fighting chance against the vaccine as they boost the immune system. Therefore, everyone who can, those without health reasons not to, must be vaccinated.
The coronavirus is said to be attacking and killing mainly those with weaker immune systems.
The coronavirus emerged in the Chinese province of Wuhan in 2019 and its origins are still unknown although some are claiming that it was created in the lab while some say it came from animals.
The most worrying part is that there seems to be a new more contagious variant every now and then which means vaccines need to be improved always as each is tailor-made to deal with existing or known variants.
Meanwhile, millions of people around the globe have so far been infected by and died from the coronavirus.
Statistics from health organisations, including Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Child Care, have suggested that a <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/07/24/90-of-zimbabwes-covid-19-hospital-admissions-are-unvaccinated-patients/">larger percentage of people who are dying from COVID-19 are unvaccinated.</a>

Zimbabwean preacher Talent Chiwenga has said his compatriot, Emmanuel Makandiwa lied to the nation that he had been told by God that the COVID-19 vaccinations that are being developed worldwide are a mark of the Beast (Satan).
He said if Makandiwa had indeed received a warning from God, he should still be speaking against the vaccines now particularly so because they are already in the country and are being administered.
Makandiwa is one of the individuals who have been sceptical about the vaccine and have been urging Western countries to start vaccinating their citizens before coming to Africa, since “they are the most affected than us.”

Zimbabwe’s Health and Child Care Minister, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Constantino_Chiwenga">Constantino Chiwenga</a> has announced that Zimbabwe is ready for the second rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine adding that teachers and religious leaders will receive the vaccination soon.
The first rollout targeted frontline workers including healthcare workers, journalists, and members of the security sector.
Speaking at the Robert Gabriel International airport where Zimbabwe took delivery of the second batch of the Chinese-made Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine, Chiwenga said schools were to be included in the second rollout.
He also stated that religious leaders were also to be included in the second COVID-19 vaccine rollout programme considering that they mix and mingle with many congregants.
The announcement about the vaccination of teachers and religious leaders comes as schools have reopened for examination classes while religious groups were given the green light to resume gatherings albeit with strict observation of COVID-19 regulations.
Some religious leaders and teachers have <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/leave-the-science-to-the-experts-doctors-warn-religious-leaders-on-covid-19-vaccines/">previously expressed scepticism</a> on the vaccination programme as many feared it might not be safe for humans considering that health experts had not been given time for assessing its efficacy.
Meanwhile, government officials including Chiwenga have since taken the jab to allay the fears.
Zimbabwe aims to vaccinate as many people as possible to achieve herd or community immunity.
The government emphasises that vaccination if voluntary although the president recently warned that those who refuse to take the jab risk losing out on opportunities and some services.
So far Zimbabwe has received vaccines from China while countries like Russia, India, and the United Kingdom have pledged to donate their versions of the vaccines.

Emmanuel Makndiwa’s sermon in which he said “we don’t like Jesus’s instruction” has sparked controversy with some calling him a non-believer.

It has to be something that you don’t enjoy doing and by doing it, it becomes an act of obedience to an external instruction. Use Anointing On COVID-19 - Mambo Dhuterere Dares Prophets

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Priscilla_Misihairabwi-Mushonga">Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga</a> a Zimbabwean politician and Proportional Representation legislator for Matabeleland South has said that religious leaders in the country can play an essential role in the fight against coronavirus.
Her remarks come when social media users have been mocking prominent church leaders who want “people’s tithe” but “do nothing” when a pandemic hits.
Misihairabwi-Mushonga said:
<blockquote>Perhaps a group of pastors can find a reputable accounting management company to start a Solidarity fund.I know we are all struggling but if each person in Zimbabwe and outside Zimbabwe contributed a dollar to this fund we could have some money to buy these needed testing kits.

She also proposed that every MP, senator, ministry secretaries, heads of parastatals, all commissioners, heads of security services must at the end of this month contribute $1 000 each to a fund which will be distributed to the 10 provinces on equity, not equal basis.
Zimbabwe has a number of high profile church leaders and some quarters expect them to give the “bankrupt” state a leg up as what is always done by business and telecommunications mogul Strive Masiyiwa.

The government of Zimbabwe has said the Founder and Leader of the United Families Internationa Church (UFIC), <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmanuel_Makandiwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmanuel Makandiwa</a> is a true man of God.

This comes after Makandiwa on Sunday declared that he was the only prophet the world over who had warned about the dangers facing President Emmerson Mnangagwa and called for prayers for his protection.
In his sermon streamed live on Facebook, Makandiwa chided government officials who were criticising him for his “inaccurate” prophecies.
He insisted that it was through his prophecy that those officials, who were now criticising him, had been elevated.
Mnangagwa narrowly escaped a grenade explosion at White City Stadium in Bulawayo in the run-up to the 2018 general elections. Two security officers were killed by the blast.

Govt 'Recognises' Makandiwa As A 'True Man Of God'

Founder and leader of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/United_Family_International_Church" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">United Families International Church (UFIC)</a> <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmanuel_Makandiwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmanuel Makandiwa</a> had defended his “prophecy”, saying the people who are questioning its accuracy are forgetting that they are now serving a man who was saved by the prophecy.
Makandiwa said he was the one and only prophet who asked for prayers to be offered for the particular man resulting in his being saved.
Though he did not mention by name of the person he was referring to, some commentators believe that he was referring to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who escaped unhurt from a bomb explosion at a rally in 2018.

Mambo Dhuterere Nominated For 5 Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa Invitational Concert and Awards

Harare Businessman, Upenyu Mashangwa and his wife Blessing, both ex-UFIC members, who claim to have lost a fortune after being misled by Emmanuel Makandiwa’s false prophecies have approached the Supreme Court seeking the reversal of a High Court judgment which exonerated Makandiwa of alleged charges.
The couple which was demanding $1.7 million from the clergyman alleges that in 2012, Makandiwa misled them into seeding money to the church saying that they would encounter a huge debt cancellation.
They say that as a result, their house in Marlborough, Harare, was later attached and sold for $500 000 instead of $700 000 by ZB Bank.
Makandiwa, however, denied ever misleading the couple on debt payment saying that no prophecy can command the congregants to stop repaying their debts. He added that the Mashangwas never owed ZB Bank as alleged and that the Marlborough property was never attached over a $500 000 debt as alleged.
He also said that he was not aware of the money the couple said it gave to the church. To support his claim on the prophecy, he attached a DVD which captured what transpired on the day in question. Makandiwa demands $6.5 million from the couple for defamation.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Monday reserved judgment.

Five men, who were accused of torturing, kidnapping and robbing while impersonating police officers to villagers who had reportedly stolen gold ore from a mine in Mutawatawa have been acquitted of all charges.
The mine was earlier believed to be owned by United Family International Church (UFIC) leader Emmanuel Makandiwa but it was established that it belongs to a church member. It was also established that Makandiwa regularly visits the mine.
Garikai Murambidzi, Warren Chinyani, Joseph Dzomba, Osward Mukwesha and Brian Mawarura  and four others were found not guilty after a full trial before Mutawatawa magistrate Mr Elijah Sibanda. Sibanda ruled that State allegations were unsubstantiated and lacked corroboration. The accused persons were facing four counts of kidnapping, three counts of robbery, assault and impersonating a police officer, peace officer or public official.

Makandiwa Gold Mine Kidnappers Acquitted

Five men accused of kidnapping villagers they accused of stealing gold ore at a mine believed to be owned by United Family International Church (UFIC) leader Emmanuel Makandiwa in Mutawatawa, will be back in court on March 18.
Garikai Murambidzi, Warren Chinyani, Joseph Dzomba, Osward Mukwesha and Brian Mawarura were granted $100 bail each when they appeared before Mutawatawa magistrate Mr Elijah Sibanda yesterday. They are facing kidnapping charges. Alternatively, they will be charged with unlawful detention.
The five allegedly committed the offence on January 24 this year at Havilah Mine. They accused some villagers of stealing gold ore at Havilah Gold Mine. The gang took the villagers to Havilah Milling Plant where they locked them up in a small room around 1pm. They allegedly interrogated the suspects and severely assaulted them. The villagers were detained for 23 hours until 12 noon the following day. After release, the villagers were handed over to the police. Police investigations later revealed the kidnapping and torture, leading to the arrest of the five. The villagers were also employed at Havilah Mine, which is commonly known as “KwaMakandiwa”.

Makandiwa Gold Mine Kidnappers Granted Bail

Zimbabwean prophets are increasingly coming under scrutiny after the scandals that have followed prophets across the Limpopo.
South African prophets have made the headlines for the wrong reasons after Prophet Bushiri was arrested for money-laundering while Prophet Lukau allegedly faked raising a man from the dead.
Zimbabwe Council of Churches secretary-general Kenneth Mtata said:
<blockquote>… there has been a rise in people given different titles in the past decade and who have redefined conventional Christians at a number of levels.
They claim to have special knowledge about God … because of the special insight is allegedly given to them by God … and since they have some special knowledge, their followers must depend on them for decisions, be it in business, politics and family life.
It is this group of people who have found a way of manipulating many people who are desperate … and have managed to tap into the African Traditional Religion where the understanding among Africans is that for someone to succeed there must be some supernatural influence from outside, and if someone is not succeeding it means that there are some negative supernatural forces that must be overcome.
So, there is an interesting syncretism that has developed in the last 15 or so years, and this kind of Christianity is the one we are seeing manifesting in different forms of chicanery and manipulation and the miracles that are purported to have been performed as we have seen. Regulating religion is very difficult especially if your Constitution allows the freedom of religion and worship, and so to put restrictions on religion will be against the Constitution.
What could be put as a requirement is that all churches should affiliate to one of the mother bodies so that there is mutual accountability. This is what I think could address the problem.
Local prophets, Emmanuel Makandiwa and Walter Magaya had their own scandals, ranging from allegations of being involved in gold mine kidnap and torture, as well as selling “fake’ AIDS drugs.</blockquote>

Zim Prophets Under Scrutiny

Founder and leader of United Family International Church (UFIC) Emmanuel Makandiwa on Sunday warned President Emmerson Mnangagwa against deploying troops against civilians for the third time as that would invite foreign intervention.
Makandiwa said this while addressing thousands of his followers in Harare during a church service. He said:
<blockquote>If this happens for the third time, it will not be good. We don’t want anything that will provoke the bees (military) from outside. It won’t be our army against civilians.
This time they will get an equal opponent, and it is going to be an army against army. We don’t want that to happen because where we are now, there’s still a chance.</blockquote>
Makandiwa also spoke about his relationship with politicians. He revealed that politicians will not push him around or tell him what to do:
<blockquote>If you had a relationship with the current system, you would not come here and complain over issues. What makes the relationship absent is not that, neither they nor I do not want it, but it is because I don’t want to be told (around) what to do.
In the relationship, I should be the one telling you because you’re the one who cannot hear from God. I can spend 10 years with you and never tell you a word from God, as long as you like to talk.</blockquote>
On 1 August 2018, Mnangagwa deployed  a crack military unit in Harare’e CBD against unarmed civilians who were protesting against perceived rigging of the presidential election results by electoral authorities leading to the killing of at least 7 people.
In January 2019, soldiers were against deployed across Harare and Bulawayo and other cities to deal with prostes triggered by a sharp fuel price hike. 17 civilians were shot and killed, hundreds were seriously injured and more than 1 000 arrested.

Politicians Won't Tell Me What To Do - Makandiwa

Founder and leader of United Family International church, Emmanuel Makandiwa, has warned President Mnangagwa of possible foreign intervention if the government attacks civilians again.
Makawandiwa was speaking to his congregants in a sermon today.
Said Makandiwa:
<blockquote>If this happens for the third time, it will not be good. We don’t want anything that will provoke the bees (military) from outside. It won’t be our army against civilians. This time they will get an equal opponent, and it is going to be army against army. We don’t want that to happen because where we are now, there’s still a chance.</blockquote>
Makandiwa is one of the emergent leaders of Pentecostal churches that have grown in Zimbabwe over the past two decades. The others being Uerbert  Angel, Passion Java, Walter Magaya and T Freddy.
