Fire Breaks Out At Chihuri's Home, Police Officers Exchange Gunfire After Cop Goes Rogue (Updated)

A policeman from the ZRP’s Support Unit, colloquially known as ” The Black Boots,” is reported to have attempted to loot, his boss, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri’s house in Greystone Park. However, the rogue cop’s plans were thwarted after a gardener who works for Chihuri spotted him. The gardener is reported to have alerted one of the police officers who guard the property, who was making a routine inspection. This was around 9:30 am.

When the police officer confronted the alleged rogue cop and attempted to apprehend him, the situation escalated quickly as the suspect fired at the police officer using his FN rifle. The officer then called for backup from the Police General Headquarters (PGHQ). The backup arrived promptly and a gunfight took place. The gunfight is reported to have lasted three hours and only stopped after the alleged rogue cop ran out of ammunition.

He is reported to have tried to escape using one of Chihuri’s cars but was unable to do so, as the property was surrounded. There was a chopper from the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) which was circling the house. The suspect then set the house on fire and damaged a significant section of the roof before it was put out by the Air Force of Zimbabwe Fire Brigade.

The suspect is reported to have been arrested after he ran out of ammunition.

This is a developing a story and will be updated as more details come in.
