Some People Yearned For Smith In 1980, Its The Same Now With Mugabe - ED Not Bothered

President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that he is not bothered by some people who are yearning for the return of former president Robert Mugabe because things have become tougher since his departure.

Mnangagwa said it was the same with some people when the last Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian Smith left office at Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980. While addressing the media at State House on Wednesday night, Mnangagwa said:

When we came into office in 2017, we promised Zimbabweans democracy and claims that some of our citizens want him (Mugabe) to return actually show we have kept our word despite accusations to the contrary.

After Independence some people yearned for Smith (Ian, late former Rhodesian Prime Minister). It is the same now.

Mugabe was pushed out of power in November 2017 after a brief military takeover. After a week of jockeying between the veteran politician and Zimbabwe’s generals, Mugabe agreed to leave office as the threat of impeachment was looming.
