I Cannot Say Happy Workers' Day - Chamisa
MDC president Nelson Chamisa said that Workers’ Day to Zimbabweans has little meaning as many are either out of work or without work. Chamisa said this in a post on microblogging site, Twitter. He wrote:
Labour day in Zimbabwe. Many are either out of work or without work, almost hopeless and jobless. Only Change can make things happen. Today is the day dedicated to all those who make efforts and never give up. Workers United will never be defeated. I wish I could say happy Workers’ day!
The 1st of May is the day set aside for celebrating workers globally. In Zimbabwe, May Day has become hollow and meaningless as some sources estimate that about 90 per cent of adults is unemployed.
The MDC was formed as a labour-backed political party in 1999. At formation, most of the leaders had trade union backgrounds among them, founding president Morgan Tsvangirai and vice president Gibson Sibanda.
