ED Dispatches Team To Investigate Chemagora Land Evictions

Following the eviction of over 3000 families from Chemagora farm in Gokwe 2 months ago by soldiers and the police, president Mnangagwa is reported to have sent an interministerial team to investigate into the matter.

A NewsDay earlier reported that the evicted families were left stranded by the roadside.

Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri who was leading the delegation, told The Herald the team was investigating similar matters nationwide. He said:

As you might be aware, after the land reform, we had illegal settlements that continued to mushroom throughout the country. Government is now conducting a clean-up exercise to do away with these illegal settlements.

We are doing this countrywide and Chemagora was one of the affected areas so we are here on a fact-finding mission.

Government is doing everything to resettle the affected families, but as you must bear in mind that the country is not expanding. We will however, not leave the affected people stranded.

Recently, war veterans warned the government over the ‚Äúselectively targeted‚ÄĚ land evictions. They also argued that the lands taken from them were being given to senior government officers.
