The property owners have neglected and or abandoned their properties and are not paying rentals and taxes hence the city’s decision to auction them if they don’t heed to the final notice calls.

This was revealed by the city’s Director of Housing and Community Services, Mr Dictor Khumalo who said:

A total of 2 241 properties were identified in the AS400 System as derelict in May 2019 after the rates of the same were not paid for a period exceeding five years. The properties were owing amounts ranging from RTGS$800 to RTGS$101 000.

However, between 31 May 2019 and 31 July 2019 while the list was compiled, 134 accounts were either fully or partially paid hence removed

Mr Khumalo said if the owners don’t come forth their properties will be auctioned.
