Bindura South MP, Remigious Matangira (Zanu PF) and his driver Tichaona Svinurai (32) appeared before Bindura provincial magistrate Tinashe Ndokera on Thursday last week facing assault charges.
The duo allegedly assaulted an MDC activist, Saymore Mashokoro (45), on June 22 last year.
Matangira (66) and Svinurai reportedly stepped on Mashokoro’s foot and slapped him in the face, leaving him swollen. He reported the matter to the police resulting in the arrest of the duo.
Matangira and Svinurai were remanded out of custody to February 11 for the continuation of trial.
