Minister says Zimbabwe needs approximately US$5 billion to rehabilitate roads
Addressing a key stakeholders meeting on road infrastructure sector in Bindura, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development Dr Jorum Gumbo said that Zimbabwe needs approximately US$5 billion to rehabilitate the roads. He also said Government through ZINARA will this year disburse over US$5 million to 10 local authorities in Mashonaland Central Province.
Said Gumbo:
It is not a secret that most of our road network has outlived its useful lifespan and we would need to expend a minimum of approximately US$5 billion to rehabilitate the roads. The revenue that ZINARA is mobilising which is less than US$200 million per annum is not sufficient to cover the maintenance backlog.
FeedbackSome of the major roads earmarked for rehabilitation in Mashonaland Central this year includes Mvurwi-Guruve-Angwa-Kanyemba Road, Mt Darwin-Mukumbura Road and Bindura Matepatepa Road.
