Nurse on the run after raping patient at Parirenyatwa Hospital
Parirenyatwa Hospital CEO Thomas Zigora confirmed that a nurse identified as Taurai Mazarura raped a female patient aged 17, who was hit and injured by a car in Harare’s central business district on the 19th February, leading to her admission for treatment at the hospital.
Mazarura, who had just joined the hospital after close to two years without a job, was caught red handed by another nurse abusing the teenager and ran away. Speaking to reporters on the matter Zigora said:
The matter is now being handled by the Zimbabwe Republic Police after we received a report that Taurai, who is a male nurse, is alleged to have raped a young female patient. This happened in the early hours of February 19th in a cubicle in Ward A1. The matter was immediately reported to the police who are in the process of conducting investigations. We don’t want this to happen again to patients. We will take stern disciplinary action on the nurse and, in the meantime, the patient is receiving appropriate medical care and counselling. The behaviour of the nurse is highly reprehensible and is not something expected from a health professional.
