Schools defy Govt directive not to send pupils away for not paying fees, 63% sent away

Statistics from the latest Zimbabwe Vulnerability Assessment Committee (ZimVAC) report show that at least 63% of pupils were sent away for not paying school fees despite Government policy that discourages such practice.

Part of the report reads:

Nationally, at least 63 percent of children experienced being turned away for non-payment of school fees. Generally, the proportion of children who were turned away from school during the first term of 2017 was high in all provinces. This is so despite there being in place a policy that discourages this practice.

The report also shows that 42% of children that were not in school was due to financial constraints while 23% were considered too young.  About 7 percent were not in school due to illness.
