Moyo, Chombo, Kasukuwere, Chipanga and Chimene expelled from Parliament

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mable Chinomona on Tuesday announced that five alleged G40 Faction Members have been expelled from parliament and that their seats are now vacant. The ruling Zanu-PF party notified the House of Assembly that the five legislators no longer represented the interests of the party. The five who were expelled are:

  • Professor Jonathan Moyo – former Higher and Tertiary Education Minister.
  • Saviour Kasukuwere – Former Local Governmnent Minister.
  • Ignatius Chombo – Former Finance Minister.
  • Mandi Chimene – Former Minister of State for Manicaland
  • Kudzanai Chipanga – Former Zanu-PF Youth League Secretary

Chinomona announced that Parliament was going to notify the President and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of the vacancies.

President Robert Mugabe’s nephew and former Public Services Minister Patrick Zhuwao was spared the ignominy of his companions because he was a  non-constituency member of Parliament, who was appointed by former President Robert Mugabe.  This means he is no longer an MP unless President Mnangagwa reappoints him.

This was the first time that Parliament was sitting since the Inauguration of President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday.

The expulsions will add to the woes of Chombo and Chipanga, who are currently in remand prison, awaiting trial on numerous charges.  Moyo and Kasukuwere are yet to be seen in public since the Zimbabwe Defence Forces launched Operation Restore Legacy.
