Another National Peace Reconciliation Commission Meeting Fails To Take Place After Protests
The National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) was forced to cancel its meeting in Lupane today ( Monday) after protests. This is the second meeting to be disrupted after last week’s meeting in Bulawayo was cancelled after the Mthwakazi Republic Party (MPR) protested against the composition of the Commission saying that the majority of the commissioners were Shona. The NPRC is the body tasked with looking into the Gukurahundi Massacres, among other issues in order to promote national healing and reconciliation.
Youths from Mthwakazi demanded that President Emmerson Mnangagwa should answer for his role in the Gukurahundi atrocities. However, there were reports that the disruptive youths were not from Lupane but had been bused from Bulawayo. The allegations were made by local legislator MP Khumalo who later left the meeting. The youths also claimed that they were not going to be addressed by people from Harare and started singing
Lingababulali’ lingababuli, lalibulala obaba
(you are murderers, you killed our fathers)FeedbackAt the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, President Emmerson Mnangagwa refused to apologise for his role in Gukurahundi insisting that hearings by the NPRC were adequate.
