Chinamasa Says It Would Have Been Shameful To Go For Elections With A 94-Year Candidate
Minister of Finance Patrick Chinamasa has said that it would have been shameful for Zanu-PF to have a 94-year presidential candidate at this year’s elections. This is despite the fact that the whole Zanu-PF had endorsed former president Robert Mugabe to be their presidential candidate until he was forced to resign when the military intervened in Zanu-PF politics in November. Said Chinamasa
We are in a better position now as a party. It was a shame for the party to go to elections with a 94-year-old leader as our candidate.
Unity should now prevail in the party because these men did a great job,” said the chief of the national treasury.
FeedbackIf we lose (the forthcoming) elections, then it’s our case of disunity. If we had worked together like we are doing today, the country would have achieved much more.
Mugabe has endorsed the new political party, the National Patriotic Front, which has vowed to return constitutionalism in Zimbabwe.
