Installation of Gomba As Harare Mayor Postponed Due To Cholera
The City of Harare has postponed the installation of Herbert Gomba as the city’s new mayor indefinitely citing concerns about the cholera outbreak. The city said that the installation will be carried out once the city is secure that the cholera outbreak has been dealt with. The Harare City Council also said that it had slashed the budget for the installation by 50 percent to reduce expenditure. In a message, the City of Harare said,
The installation of Harare Mayor CLR Herbert Gomba has been put on hold until the cholera outbreak has been effectively dealt with. A $3 000 budget has been set aside which is a 50 percent reduction from last year’s costs. Council is on a drive to break with tradition in terms of expenditure. The City Sports Centre belongs to the council so there are no hiring fees. Municipal police will provide security and escort.
