RBZ Has Been Captured, Mthuli Ncube Needs Help From Security Sector To Fix It - Lumumba
Newly appointed chairperson of the Ministry of Finance’s Communications Taskforce Acie Lumumba, real name William Mutumanje, has said that Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube needs help from the security sector to clean up the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ). Lumumba claimed that the RBZ is captured and made a number of allegations against some of its directors who he said are major players in the illegal trade of foreign currency. Speaking to NewsDay, Lumumba said that the governor was going to meet with senior officials from the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) and the Zimbabwe Republic Police to track the alleged “economic saboteurs”.
Said Lumumba,
The minister is receiving briefs, yes, and will meet them (security sector) this week. The minister is committed to arresting the situation and the security agencies have narrowed down the source of the criminal activities. It’s clear we have dirty hands collaborating with government officials and it’s only a matter of time now before the government shuts down the aggressive influence of the black market and clean up errant government complicity.
FeedbackThere are directors at RBZ, especially, who are holding industry captive. The corruption at director level of the RBZ is pure poison and there is no single business that doesn’t know that the directors are out of control. RBZ has been captured and the governor will need security sector support to clean that up.
However, in Facebook live video Lumumba absolved RBZ governor John Mangudya of all blame saying that the people who were behind the black market trade were senior directors at the central bank. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has promised to introduce tough measures to deal with illegal foreign currency traders after citing them as a serious security threat.
