Diamond Policy To Be Announced By November: Mines Minister
Mines and Mining Development minister Winston Chitando says he expects to announce a diamond policy later this month. The new policy is set to regularise the operations of the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC), a government-owned entity. ZCDC was established in 2015 after the government cancelled licences of miners in the Chiadzwa fields and consolidated all diamond mining concessions under ZCDC.
There were seven companies operating in the Chiadzwa diamond fields namely, Marange Resources, Anjin Investments Ltd., Diamond Mining Company, Gyn Nyame Resources, Jinan Mining Ltd., Kusena Diamonds, and Mbada Diamonds. Speaking before the Parliamentary Committee on Mines, Chitando said
The diamond policy will be announced by November to give guidance on the operations of the diamond industry in the country, and specifically to deal with issues of ZCDC.
