Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi Declared A Zimbabwe National Hero

The late music icon Oliver Mtukudzi has been declared a national hero by the ZANU PF Politburo. The ruling party’s highest decision-making body met in Harare today were it unanimously agree to confer the honour to the legend. Mtukudzi passed away on Wednesday afternoon at Avenues Clinic.

This means the late star will be buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare, a shrine normally reserved for heroes from Zimbabwe’s war of liberation.

Yesterday, Minister of Sports Youth And Culture hinted that government was looking to honour Oliver Mtukudzi for his contribution to the culture of the country through music. Mtukudzi’s career spanned several decades since before Zimbabwe’s independence.

He has more than 50 albums to his name.

Mtukudzi died yesterday, 23 January 2019, aged 66.
