UN Appeals For $234 Million To Support Drought-hit Zimbabwe
The United Nations is appealing for US$234 million to help alleviate a looming humanitarian situation in the country.
This was revealed by the UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Mark Lowcock when he met President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Thursday in Harare. He said:
I wanted to express on behalf of the United Nations our total solidarity with Zimbabwe in coping with the drought and current economic challenges.
FeedbackAnd I was able to inform his Excellency that we will today be launching the United Nations flash appeal to provide assistance from the international community to Zimbabwe. Our appeal is for $234 million.
The country has received below normal rainfall this farming season and it is expected that millions of household are food insecure.
