CAAZ CEO Trial On Abuse Of Office Rescheduled

The trial of the Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe, David Chawota, has been postponed to the 24th of May. The postponement was announced after prosecutors notified the court that investigations were still underway.

The CEO is accused of failure to disclose to the Ministry of Transport a clash of interests when Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) contracted Akodac Consultancy Services where he is registered as a director and shareholder. The company was contracted to supply road construction material.

Chawota, who was recently granted a $2 000 bail, is also on remand for fraudulently awarding a €27 900 000 contract to a Spanish company, Indra Sistemus, which did not meet minimum mandatory requirements.
