The price of tobacco on the auction floors in April 2019 has frustrated many new farmers in Zimbabwe, who have vowed to take their tobacco to their farms.
Said the woman in the video:
We clearly now live in slavery, farming tobacco. A bag of fertiliser is $120 but you buy our tobacco for R5 (generally equated to US 50 cents in Zimbabwe). We will not bring any more tobacco here [to the auction floors]. We’ll take our crop home. Even the tobacco we had brough here, we want to take it back. The buyers can keep their money.
