World Bank Gives Zim US$75 Million For Cyclone Idai Relief
The World Bank has availed US$700 million in total towards the three countries impacted by Tropical Cyclone Idai, namely Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique.
Zimbabwe will receive US$75 million, Malawi US$120 million, while Mozambique, the most affected country receives US$350 million.
The funds will be channelled through the select United Nations agencies to support the people in the three respective countries.
In a statement released on Friday, the World Bank said:
The World Bank is activating the International Development Association (IDA) Crisis Response Window (CRW) to provide up to $545 million in total for the three affected countries.
This is in addition to nearly $150 million in resources that have recently been made available from existing projects.
Together, total World Bank support to the three countries’ recovery reaches around $700 million.
The World Bank Group is working closely with our partners to help the population recover from these terrible storms, build back stronger than before, and improve countries’ resilience to natural disasters.
