Aid Workers, Soldiers Sexually Exploiting Women & Girls In Cyclone Idai Areas - Report
The United Nations Office for Coordination and Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) released a report which reveals complaints raised by villagers over the continued presence of soldiers in Cyclone Idai-affected districts.
According to the report, there are increased cases of sexual violence against girls and women by soldiers and aid workers. Part of the report reads:
High-level interventions are needed as to the continued presence of the armed forces (ZDF). Though reduced, at school facilities in Chimanimani there are reports of involvement in humanitarian response.
FeedbackA total of 70 complaints – 32 female and 17 male in Chimanimani and 13 male and 8 female in Chipinge– on GBV (Gender-Based Violence) and sexual exploitation and abuse were received through the safe spaces – bringing the total of received complaints since the beginning of a response to 131.
