Kariba Power Station Could Be Shut Down In 14 Weeks - Chasi
The Minister of Energy and Power Development, Fortune Chasi revealed that Kariba Power Station could be shut down in 3 months’ time owing to the fast-receding water levels in the dam.
He said this in a Ministerial statement issued on Thursday, revealing that the power situation has become alarming. Said Chasi:
There is no guarantee that there will be water, what we are seeing is a southward movement in water levels at Kariba. If the trend goes like that, we will probably say just after 14 weeks Kariba will not generate any megawatts.
FeedbackChasi added that electricity tariffs will not be raised as ZESA, the country’s power utility is being supported by the government.
