"Zimbabwe Has Run Out Of Everything" - Bloomberg Report
Reports indicate that the Zimbabwean government is now struggling to provide citizens with basic identification documents, that is, passports and plastic identity cards.
Failure to provide these essential documents has been attributed to an acute lack of foreign currency. Foreign currency is needed to import consumables used in the productions of the documents.
An official at the passport office told Bloomberg that the situation is grim as passports were only being issued for emergencies.
The Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Cain Mathema recently told The Herald that things will improve and that the government was working on improving the situation.
Since former President Robert Mugabe resigned in November 2017, Zimbabwe has progressively run out of almost everything: cash, electricity, water, fuel, bread, medicines, and maize meal.
