Job Sikhala's Case Transferred To Masvingo
The trial of Job Sikhala, national vice chairperson of the opposition MDC, has been transferred to Masvingo. The state argued that Sikhala was in Masvingo when he violated the law hence the need for the case to be heard in Masvingo courts.
Sikhala is being charged with subversion after he said that the MDC will overthrow president Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government before 2023.
He was addressing party supporters in Bikita, Masvingo over the weekend.
Sikhala has since come out saying that he meant overthrowing national issues including hunger and intimidation of the citizenry by the government.
Some legal experts have argued that he has no case to answer since dislodging a constitutionally elected government through constitutional means including impeachment is not forbidden.

Others, however, argue that if he meant overthrowing hunger, his party would not have issued a statement distancing itself from the remarks.
MDC Treasurer General also came out saying that Sikhala’s remarks were understandable but would result in another Egypt, another Iraq or another Libya. The countries he mentioned were left desolate by violent demonstrations that broke out in those countries against respective governments.
