VP Chiwenga Airlifted To China: Wonder Why This Sudden Level Of Transparency - Analyst

Zimbabweans have expressed their shock in the transparent manner in which the government has been reporting Vice President Chiwenga’s health condition. Previously, the health condition of political elites remained hidden until their demise or until they get well.

This comes after Presidential Spokesperson, George Charamba, had revealed in a press statement that Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga had left South Africa for China where he is to undergo thorough medical tests. In a statement, Charamba said:

Following last week’s Presidential statement on Vice President CGDN Chiwenga’s health and recovery status, the Office of the President and Cabinet wishes to inform the Nation that the Vice President this week left for the People’s Republic of China where he is set to undergo further medical tests. His relocation to China, which builds on the satisfactory recovery progress he has been making, follows weekend discussions at the highest level between Governments of Zimbabwe and China, at which a decision was taken to allow Chinese medical experts to join their expert counterparts from Zimbabwe, South Africa and India in attending to the Vice President. The Office will keep the Nation updated on the progress the Vice President continues to make towards full recovery.

The announcement perplexed some including political analyst, Rashweat Mukundu who said:

Wonder why this sudden level of transparency.

Some have wondered why Chiwenga has been airlifted to China if he was really ‘mending’ as president Emmerson Mnangagwa recently revealed. Mduduzi Mathuthu said:

If Mnangagwa was telling the truth that Chiwenga was on the treadmill or some other exercise facility, surely there would be no need for this latest raid on the public purse flying him to China with Zimbabwean, Indian and South African doctors in attendance. Some truth missing
