Mash West Chief Lands Officer Arrested Over Bribes From White Farmers

Mashonaland West Chief Lands Officer, Malvern Mhaka, has appeared before Provincial Magistrate, Tavengwa Chibanda facing three charges of criminal abuse of office.

Mhaka who was arrested on Wednesday is alleged to have asked for kickbacks from white farmers so as to process 99-year lease certificates for them.

The state, represented by Messrs Texus Manditsvara and Claudius Mandinenga alleges that Mhaka asked for bribes in various forms including a tractor and land sharing.

The accused was granted $400 bail and ordered to report at CID Chinhoyi every two weeks.

He was remanded to the 29th of this month.
