Electricity Tariff Increase Imminent
Energy and Power Development Minister, Fortune Chasi, said the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) is looking at ways to come up with cost-reflective electricity tariffs.
Speaking during a post-cabinet media briefing on Monday, Chasi argued that selling power at a loss will create problems. He said:
The long term goal is to make sure that we have a tariff that is (well) constituted. We cannot import power or generate power at and sell it at a loss, we will be creating very significant problems.
FeedbackZESA Holdings, the country’s power utility recently hiked electricity tariffs which had become unsustainable. The country, however, continues experiencing rolling power cuts as electricity remains scarce.
