ZANU PF Youths Want 40% Of Command Farming Equipment
The ZANU PF Youth League has demanded 40 per cent of the farming implements availed under the controversial government bank-rolled Command Agriculture programme.
Deputy secretary Lewis Matutu took to the microblogging site, Twitter, to express the wing’s demands. He wrote:
We are demanding 40% of the mechanisation equipment that will be allocated to farmers by the government.
It is our time as young people to participate in the development of our country and shape our future.
In his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Tuesday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa revealed that ZWL$1, 8 billion and US$51 million will be added to the scheme for the upcoming summer cropping season.
Reports claim that US$3 billion set aside for the programme from 2017 to 2019 could not be accounted for by Treasury officials.
