Chasi: Pay Your Electricity Bills & Stop Blame Game
Energy and Power Development Minister Fortune Chasi has urged electricity consumers to stop the blame game but to pay their bills to ensure power availability.
Speaking during an Annual Energy Innovations Summit held in Harare on Thursday, Chasi told delegates that failure to pay for power will cripple the power utility, ZESA, and it will not be able to fulfil its mandate. He said:
Most of us have taken power for granted in the past and there is need to exercise discipline in paying bills, people quite happy to pay nothing for ZESA and expect that the business is going to continue.
FeedbackIt’s not going to continue because if ZESA is unable to meet its liabilities, unable to buy spares that are necessary, they will not be able to perform and function.
Chasi revealed that the Hwange Power Station expansion project is progressing well. He reiterated the government’s call for both domestic and industrial consumers to pay their electricity bills.
