ZANU PF Has Become A Party Of Acquisition - Stephen Chan
3 years ago
Stephen Chan, a professor of World Politics at SOAS, University of London, says ZANU PF has morphed from being a party of liberation to becoming a party of acquisition.
Writing on the microblogging site, Twitter, Chan observed that Zimbabwe’s ruling party fires doctors while its officials are treated abroad, and the party has also presided over two collapses in the country’s economy. He wrote:
ZANU-PF was once the party of liberation but is now the party of acquisition. It acquires while others suffer. It fires doctors while the Foreign Minister flies to South Africa for treatment. It has overseen TWO dramatic collapses in the economy without learning any fiscal lessons.
FeedbackCorruption by well-connected political elites has been identified as the major stumbling block in reviving the country’s ailing economy.
The late former president Robert Mugabe sent tounges wagging a few years ago when he declared that US$15 billion worth of diamond money simply disappeared without a trace.
