ZRP: "We Just Don't Want Toi Toi On The Road," Before Violently Dispersing "Defiant" MDC Supporters
Zimbabwe Republic Police, in the video below, ask MDC supporters to get inside Morgan Tsvangirai House, party Headquarters, before violently dispersing them.
The police said that the MDC was not prohibited from conducting its business but it was to be done inside the party building.
Speaking to Nkululeko Sibanda who is the spokesperson of MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa, the police said that they just did not like “toi toi” on the road as it was “disturbing” others.
MDC supporters had gathered for Chamisa’s Hope Of The Nation Address which he said was aimed at giving hope to Zimbabweans who are currently faint-hearted due to the deteriorating state of affairs.
The police had earlier blocked the MDC from holding the event at the Africa Unity Square saying it was likely to degenerate into chaos.
They rather “agreed” with the MDC that the event should be shifted to the Harare Showgrounds for the same event, but the MDC would “on its own accord” cancel the meeting.
The party then held the same intended meeting at its headquarters where a number of people, including senior citizens, were beaten and injured by police.
