Passport Seekers Camp At Registrar General's Office
Passport seekers in Mashonaland East province have resorted to camping near the Marondera Registrar General’s Office while they wait to be served.
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Mike Madiro told ZBC News that the government is aware of the development and is working on finding solutions. He said:
It is regrettable that people are having to endure such conditions, but, as government, we are working flat out to ensure they get their service.
FeedbackThe government has failed to provide passports on time with the passport backlog now close to 400 000.
Last week the Registrar General, Clemence Masango, requested the government to raise passport fees to the equivalent of US$53 at the interbank market in order to meet production costs.
